ohnepixel is formally entering esports with a stacked CS2 team spearheaded by Volodymyr “Woro2k” Veletnjuk.
Counter-Strike 2 rarely sees streamers enter esports, unlike Valorant, where personalities like Charles “MoistCr1TiKaL” White and Jeremy “Disguised Toast” Wang have formed top-tier rosters. Most recently, Amouranth announced that she’s now an esports organization owner that also sports a CS2 division. But now, skin aficionado ohnepixel has announced that he’s entering esports with a full focus on CS2 Shanghai Major. Ohnepixel, infamous for his wild CS2 case openings, has made a surprising pivot by signing a roster for CS2 Shanghai Major and he’ll be coaching it, too.
Taking to X, the streamer confirmed the lineup for CS2 Shanghai Major, which will hold a qualifying stage between August 21-30.
ohnepixel team lineup for The CS2 Shanghai Major
CS2 streamer ohnepixel will coach his new team through the qualifiers for the Shanghai Major with a shot at appearing in the tournament.
This was quite shocking for the CS2 community, who initially thought this was a joke. But it seems to be legitimate since all players have confirmed that they are signing into the lineup. The biggest coup in Ohnepixel’s new roster is undoubtedly the signing of Woro2K, an IGL with a rich history of competing at the highest level of CS2.
Ohnepixel has stressed that this new roster is built specifically for the CS2 Shanghai Major, which has strict entry rules in 2024. With online qualifiers closed to North America, Europe, and South America, the question is how the team could gain entry. It appears that the streamer may have set up a roster for Asia qualifiers, the only region where open qualifiers are still game.
With two players in Israel and one in Morocco, the core doesn’t fall into the three regions where Valve removed the open qualifiers. This means that ohnepixel’s CS2 team may gain entry via the online Asian qualifiers. If the team manages to get far, fans may have a true underdog to root far.
While fans are excited about this lineup, most of them have instantly managed their hopes, considering coaching isn’t ohnepixel’s strongest suit. But it’s too early to be making speculations on how well the team will do.
