Two-time TI-winning organization OG has revealed its new roster as it signs a group of Southeast Asian players to form its new lineup. These players, most formerly the of Team Aureus lineup, will compete as the primary OG roster.
The announcement was made late on Saturday, Nov. 8 with five Filipino players joining the main OG roster, with the apparent aim of competing within the region going forward.
With the announcement, OG’s roster is as follows:
If you’ve been following SEA Dota 2, you may recognize these players as the majority of the former roster of Team Aureus, who’d scored a direct invite to DreamLeague Season 27 earlier this year.
Originally a European team, OG’s signing of a SEA roster is different to previous interregional signings such as OG.LATAM, who the team disbanded last month. While that roster had been set to compete alongside the main OG roster in a different region, the new lineup will instead by OG’s primary team.
“This move marks a new chapter in OG’s journey as a truly global esports organization,” said Xavier Oswald, OG Co-Owner and CEO.
“From Europe to Southeast Asia, our story has always been about people, players, fans, and communities united by passion and resilience. Expanding into SEA isn’t just a geographic shift; it’s about embracing a region with incredible talent and energy that has shaped Dota 2 for years.”
Sébastien “Ceb” Debs, former OG player and co-owner, also weighed in on the signing:
“What makes OG special has never been where we come from, it’s who we are and how we play. This new chapter in Southeast Asia is proof that the OG spirit can live anywhere. These players have the hunger, the humility, and the fire to compete at the highest level. I’ve watched SEA Dota for years, it’s raw, emotional, and full of heart. That’s exactly what OG is about. I can’t wait to see what we can build together”
In September of this year, OG was acquired by blockchain company The Chiliz Group. Following this, the organization went through some tumult in October, with the team first seeing Johan “N0tail” Sundstein rejoin the main roster, releasing its OG.LATAM lineup, and finally saying goodbye to its entire roster at the end of the month. The aforementioned Chiliz Group has a controlling stake in the organization, and it’s unknown whether these roster changes are motivated by financial pressures from the new ownership.
OG’s next tournament appearances are currently unknown, but it seems like the roster will focus on SEA competition, entering within that region primarily. For OG fans, this is a change that may be hard to get used to, especially when much of the core fanbase is based in Europe.
