Twitch banned the Nijisanji vtuber Kanae and although he has since been unbanned he lost thousands of followers.
Kanae is a male vtuber associated with the popular vtuber agency Nijisanji. Most notably, he was a founding member of the now-dissolved group Nijisanji Gamers. Kanae picked the Nijisanji Gamers group on a fluke, but his natural video game skills seemingly shine with every game he picks up.
Recently, the vtuber went viral on social media after an unfortunate incident with Twitch. On November 2, 2024, Kanae was banned from Twitch, but the platform unbanned him in a couple of hours. Normally, this is where the story would end, but Kanae found a big problem. Despite the Twitch channel’s return, fans noticed Kanae had lost more than 600,000 followers.
Kanae announced on X that he was banned on Twitch and claimed the platform had made a mistake. In his original tweet, Kanae claimed that Twitch had probably made a mistake by banning his channel. Kanae said his content complied with the platform’s rules. Furthermore, the Nijisanji vtuber stated that he was leaving it to Nijisanji management to resolve the issue. He stated it wasn’t worth the trouble unless Twitch took more action.
When he was finally unbanned, the vtuber saw his follower count drop to barely over 4,000. For context, his actual follower count was 674,000. This shocked fans but the vtuber claimed that Twitch had contacted him about the issue.
After Kanae was unbanned on Twitch, fans noticed that the Nijisanji vtuber had faced a massive drop in followers but he stated it would be fixed soon.
In a follow-up tweet, Kanae confirmed that he was banned mistakenly and Twitch has private all his content. He stated that the platform would fix the issue and also bring his followers back to normal in some time. This gave fans hope but they still wonder what went wrong to cause the vtuber to lose so many followers.
The vtuber didn’t give a time frame on when he expects the issue to be resolved but he stated that his archives are returning slowly. This shows that Twitch is taking the incident seriously and is trying to rectify the mistake. Kanae assured fans that he would look into taking measures to prevent the incident from repeating.
Regardless, the incident with Kanae further fanned the flames of anti-vtuber bias many fans accuse Twitch of having. Even without those accusations, Twitch’s consistent issues with false flags left many fans frustrated with the platform.
