Big reveals abound at the FGO Fes. 2024 event, from servant teasers and Grand Order updates to new game remasters,
The Fate franchise is dense. What started as a visual novel spun off into multiple anime, many spin-offs, and a hugely successful gacha game, an arcade version of the mobile game that’s itself an alternate universe of the mobile game- the list goes on, all while being in the larger universe created by Type-Moon. Fes. is a yearly two-day event packed with information and reveals for the upcoming year, and 2024 is no exception.
Here’s a highlight reel of all the biggest reveals at FGO Fes. 2024.
On the first day of FGO Fes. 2024, Aniplex and Type-Moon dropped news on multiple upcoming game remasters. They revealed the release date of the previously-announced Fate/stay night Remastered edition, available on Switch and Steam on August 8, 2024. With English and Chinese translations, global fans will have the opportunity to play the game that started it all.
They also showed a trailer for Fate/Extra Record, in which the moon is the metaverse, but better.
Additionally, FGO Fes. 2024 came with the news that Fate/hollow ataraxia is getting remastered. This sequel to Fate/stay night originally released in 2005, and features new and old characters as they navigate a four-day time loop.
FGO Fes. 2024 is primarily about the titular FGO, Fate/Grand Order. International audiences tune in through streams to learn about game updates, summer servants, and the anniversary servant. Two of these reveals knocked it out of the park, while the last fell flat.
The FGO team revealed the first three summer servants on day one, two SRs and one SSR.
It is interesting that Ciel is being released as a summer servant, as the other Tsukihime crossover character in FGO, Arcueid, was released as the seventh anniversary servant.
The next day came with the ninth anniversary servant reveal, summer space Ereshkigal, beast class, giving this fan favorite Sumerian goddess her first alternate form.
However, FGO Fes. 2024 wasn’t without controversy. The biggest gameplay update announced at FGO Fes. 2024 is the addition of two new “append skills,” extra buffs for characters unlocked with a currency gained primarily through extra copies. With this update, a player would need to summon eight copies of an SSR and get them to bond 15 and max them out, leading to “Needs NP8” trending on Japanese social media as players make their displeasure known. A bare minimum update to the pity system didn’t help the reception. Fans will have to wait for the update to hit the game to see if the developer makes any changes.
