The June 25 update for Counter-Strike 2 poured cold water on the new CS2 operation rumors, but a recent leak has reignited hope once again.
Days before CS2’s 25th anniversary in June, leakers had dug out solid clues pointing towards the game’s first operation after almost three years. However, fans were left disappointed when Valve celebrated the event with a simple post on X on June 19. After solid backlash, the developer rolled out five new maps for CS2, but that was all. The buzz around the potential CS2 operation had just died down, and new leaks have once again caused a stir.
The data miner responsible for several accurate CS2 leaks has uncovered a new clue hinting that Valve might still be developing the first operation for CS2.
According to a new string in the CS2 code, the game is still set to get a new operation.
On June 12, Gabe Follower posted a picture of the CS2 code highlighting the “missions/quests” text within it. According to the leaker, the code is for an upcoming operation, which may include a new game mode with missions and quests.
Almost all operations since 2014’s Operation Breakout have introduced some sort of game mode or missions for the players. CSGO’s last operation in September 2021, however, was an exception as it only included tweaks to previous modes. It would make sense for the next CS2 operation to introduce either time-limited missions or even a brand-new game mode. He also claims to have discovered another code that pointed at a new “unusual item” for CS2 cosmetics, but he’s not completely sure about its accuracy.
If this new finding holds true, then CS2 fans should hang on to hope. It appears that Valve might have been preparing a new operation for the 25th anniversary, as CS2 Steamdb was consistently being updated in the week leading up to the anniversary. However, they seemed to have chosen not to release it for some unspecified reason.
This also means that previous leaks regarding operation content that included weapon key chains, twin-blade knives, and more may also be true. However, to avoid getting they hopes crushed, it’s still best for fans not to hold their breath and enjoy whatever content Valve rolls out in the meantime.
