The year 2025 has already seen an amazing start for vtubers as the AI-powered Neuro Sama managed to set a new hype train record on Twitch, further highlighting the presence of vtubers in the mainstream media.
The use of AI in the vtuber scene is nothing new. Many argue that the first vtuber, or at least the first popular vtuber, Kizune AI, was just such an example. Kizune AI was known for her music and bubbly personality and was the first vtuber to reach the two-million subscribers milestone. She went on an indefinite hiatus in 2022, and in that same year another AI vtuber took the whole industry by storm.
The AI-powered Neuro Sama debuted as a vtuber in 2022 and streamed Osu! on Twitch. The streamer’s mechanical voice confused viewers and they wondered whether it was a human behind the screen or a computer. It later became known that Neuro Sama is an AI created by Vedal, and now the unique vtuber has broken Twitch’s hype train world record.
The AI vtuber Neuro Sama’s hype train went up to level 111 and easily broke Jason “Pirate Software” Thor Hall’s level 106 record.
Neuro Sama started off 2025 with a massive surge in her popularity and subscribers on Twitch. On January 1, 2025, Neuro Sama began a subathon on her channel, and approximately five hours into the stream, her viewers began to subscribe to her channel in earnest.
This started a hype train on Twitch, and once the subs continued to pour in Vedal expressed their surprise. He questioned his chat whether they were on the path to beat the previous hype train world record that was held by Pirate Software.
When the hype train ended the vtuber had more than 16,000 live concurrent viewers, and the streamer peaked at 141,930 subs. This effectively put her in the top 10 most-subscribed Twitch streamers list. In addition, Neuro Sama had reached level 111 and surpassed Pirate Software’s previous record of level 106. Both achievements are massive, and further speak to the popularity of Neuro Sama and of vtubers in general.
Pirate Software took to his X account to express that he thought Vedal and the community of fans who rallied to achieve the new record were “awesome.” Furthermore, the popular streamer stated that on April 1, 2025, 10:00 AM PT, “the goblins will return fire.” This means that while Pirate Software has lost his record, he has every intention of reclaiming the top spot. Only time will tell whether the streamer will be able to set the new world record as he apparently plans to.
