MSI 2022 : RED Canids’ Aegis shares how the team can beat RNG

After a dominant game against the TCL representatives, fastPay Wildcats, RED Canids have stayed alive in the 2022 Mid-Season invitational. Unfortunately, the fate of the team is not in their hands as they will have to rely on the stars to align in their favor.

Despite the small odds, RED Canids will be looking to do the unthinkable and beat the heavy titan in the group – Royal Never Give Up, to force a tiebreaker against PSG Talon.

Following their victory, the jungler of the team – Gabriel Vinicius “Aegis” Saes de Lemos – joined Jaxon for a postgame interview.

Congratulations on the win against fastPay Wildcats! How does it feel to give one back to them after the loss in the in your first match?

Aegis

It feels really good because losing to them was very frustrating. Despite the game being in a pretty good spot, we threw it in the teamfights, and it was frustrating. So, getting this revenge, with this kind of dominance, feels good.

Yohan Markov

Despite having a slim chance, it’s still not over for your guys as you still have a chance to qualify. What should we expect from the game tomorrow between RED Canids and Royal Never Give Up?

Aegis

We are not in a good spot, right? We put ourselves in this spot, and we could have won against PSG Talon. It would have been easier to do than against RNG, but we will prepare something, we will figure out something else to do.

Like the first game against RNG, we did something Level 1, we tried Draven but they are just so good and we have to be faster in the game.

When Brazil won against EDG, Revolta was the jungler, he was camping top and ganking bot. He made the pace of the game faster and won. You have better chances doing that than playing just solo for no reason. We need to be active in the early game and see how it goes.”.

Yohan Markov

You were doing ok in the early games, what do you think has to change in your gameplay so you can be the ones who beat RNG?

Aegis

For me at least, I need to play faster. When you go back and see how wildcard teams beat major region teams was with early game aggression from the junglers.

The games are becoming closer for you, do you feel like you have developed a lot throughout the tournament as a team?

Aegis

Yes, the first games, we did pretty well. To be honest, the first game against Wildcats we threw and for me, today we made an unplayable draft against PSG. Against the best teams in the world, we can’t make those mistakes.

We even got a good early game, we got drakes and herald, but it’s so hard to win teamfights with that composition. We are learning, progressing and it feels better because at least, we have a chance to make it through. The other years Brazil was not that even in the game so yeah, we are evolving.

Yohan Markov

You did pick Lee Sin against fastPay Wildcats. From what I understood, in the CBLoL, the champion is either a pick or ban for you. Can we consider Lee Sin as your special champion?

Aegis

Yes! I used to be a Lee Sin one-trick before I turned pro. Whenever Lee Sin is open, I was picking it in Brazil. Last year, we won CBLoL and I was 12-0 on Lee before losing my game during Worlds 2021.

Yohan Markov

How would you rate your personal performance at MSI 2022 so far?

Aegis

That’s kind of hard, because I am not a very confident person, so I am not that happy with my performance. We could have won those games and not be in this situation. There is a lot that I regret, but I think I am learning, and I am better than I was since arriving to Korea. I am just progressing, and that’s enough, I think.

Yohan Markov

The whole roster stayed the same and you have been with RED Canids since becoming a pro in 2018. How does it feel to represent them internationally and evolve together?

Aegis

It feels pretty good because I basically started my career with the core of this line-up. I started with my top and mid laner. We are all pretty close friends; we like each other, and the owners saw us growing. They always come to international events, they are always with us, helping us and supporting us.

It’s nice to hear them believe in us and it feels great to win for them.

Yohan Markov

Do you think the region is on the right path of development to establish itself as a constant group stage participant during both Worlds and MSI?

Aegis

I think for the region to do better, we should follow Japan & DFM. They always win in their region and they come prepared, they know what happened the last time, and they learn a lot from that.

That happened to us as well, and if we keep winning, Brazil will be better because we will learn from our experience and show it again in the next event.
