Movistar KOI and G2 Esports entered the weekend dead even in the LEC Spring Split. However, G2 has had MKOI’s number for the past three years. At 5-1 in regular seasons and 7-2 in playoffs, the match-up is very one-sided. With the crowd behind them, will MKOI turn the tides on home turf?
Betting tip: While MKOI’s single regular season win in this match-up happened this year, G2 has levelled up dramatically since then. The odds don’t lie, and G2 is the safe bet.

Both teams entered the final week tied at 4-2. However, after both losing to Team Vitality, G2 got their second loss against Fnatic while MKOI’s was against Natus Vincere. For the LEC Versus champion, losing to a low-place team is tradition. Movistar KOI only won against bottom 4 teams, though.
Against bottom 4 teams, MKOI has most of the time looked great. Joseph “Jojopyun” Joon Pyun and David “Supa” Martínez García aren’t breaking a sweat, and the team closes out games just fine.
Yet these teams didn’t challenge them much. Worse, MKOI also fell behind in all three games against Shifters. This begs the question of whether they’ll be able to show these same strengths when there’s actual push back.
Jojopyun can’t claim free reign over his mid lane matchup without jungle coverage, Javier “Elyoya” Prades Batalla can’t play the way he wants if his side lanes fall behind. VIT and NAVI already both exposed that.
Against G2, the top, jungle, and bot side all favor the LEC Versus champions. As for mid lane, it all depends on which version of Rasmus “Caps” Winther shows up. Jojo has been in great shape, but no mid laner in the LEC can match Caps when he’s in top form.

Being in a stadium makes every team play differently. The hype gets to them, as does wanting to show off. Between that and the way G2 always is in the regular season, there’s no telling how these games will end. This might in fact be MKOI’s best shot at beating them.
That being said, their best shot remains a low chance. Movistar KOI buys themselves a better chance during playoffs by being great at studying their opponent. Without that though, G2 has a strong stylistic edge.
