After winning in the first round this weekend, Movistar KOI and G2 Esports face off in the LEC Spring playoffs upper final. The winner advances to the grand final and qualifies for the 2026 Mid-Season Invitational in Seoul. The last time they met, MKOI surprisingly took the series home. Can they do it once more?
Betting tip: MKOI’s win in the final week of the regular season was most likely a fluke. G2 wins this matchup almost every time. Additionally, seeing how they fared against Karmine Corp on Saturday, they’re definitely in form.

When they met in week 7 of the LEC Spring Split’s regular season, MKOI defeated G2 quite handily. The first game was a stomp for the Spanish team, their opponent had to fight to come out ahead in the second one, and then couldn’t stop them from scaling on the final map.
MKOI has suddenly improved, now also defeating first seed Team Vitality 3-0. The worrying part for G2 is that this growth comes from a factual change in strategy.
From that final round robin match onward, MKOI has placed a much bigger focus on engage supports. Álvaro “Alvaro” Fernández del Amo has always looked stronger on them, and by allowing him to play to his style, the team has become more comfortable as well.
Secondly, Joseph “Jojopyun” Joon Pyun also had no problems keeping Rasmus “Caps” Winther in check. By shutting down their main asset and putting pressure on the bot lane, Movistar KOI found a clear answer to G2 Esports’ playstyle.
However, G2 notably spends their split ramping up and learning for the bigger games. With such a loss followed by a two-week break, the team surely went through what went wrong and found answers.
G2 has almost always had MKOI’s number in playoff matches. On that stage, MKOI’s saving grace is their ability to prepare for their opponent very well, and this is how they beat them in Spring 2025.
This time though, they’re playing back-to-back series and haven’t gotten any extra time to craft answers for G2. With how handily their opponent took down KC, the ball is in MKOI’s court to prove that they can chase the same heights as them.

Despite finding a sound strategy in their recent games, MKOI’s latest win against their rival shouldn’t set a standard. G2 doesn’t usually lose without answering back afterwards, and they’ve successfully attained their playoffs form.
