Minato Aqua graduation becomes most viewed Vtuber livestream

Minato Aqua Graduation

Hololive talent Minato Aqua’s graduation concert has shattered viewership records, becoming the most viewed Vtuber livestream of all time.

When Minato Aqua announced her graduation earlier this August, fans went through a roller coaster of emotions. While Hololive has gone through graduations before, Minato Aqua stands out for being one of the longest-tenured talents in the company’s history.

Aqua made her vtuber debut in August 2018 as part of Hololive Japan’s second generation. Over the past six years, Aqua garnered over two million subscribers, hosted countless live streams, and sang hundreds of songs. Fans loved Aqua, and she loved them back. However, all good things must come to an end, and Aqua’s graduation was set to be an emotional event.

That event quickly broke multiple records for the vtuber industry.

What was the peak live viewers of Minato Aqua’s graduation stream?

Minato Aqua’s graduation stream ended with over 749,000 peak concurrent live viewers. Some reports even claimed over 900,000 viewers at times.  The most viewed vtuber live stream record was previously held by Aqua’s junior, Kiryu Coco, who garnered over 491,000 live concurrent viewers during her own graduation. Of course, it’s worth noting that Hololive has gotten bigger in scope and viewership since that stream took place in 2021.

As for the biggest numbers seen, the 900k viewer spike could have been a bug, which often happens for livestreams that get too many viewers all at once. Most fans agree that the livestream consistently hovered around 749k viewers, especially as the concert reached its climax. Regardless of the exact number, there’s no denying that Minato Aqua’s graduation now holds the record for most-viewed livestream in vtuber history.

Hololive’s graduation streams are an event unto themselves, and the company typically sends off its talents with a bang. The graduation stream began with a short interview between Minato Aqua and COVER Corp CEO Motoaki “Yagoo” Tanigo. Given the history between the two and their nearly six years working together, fans already were emotional. Aqua lightened the mood with some jokes, such as one last weighing scale gag before starting the concert.

Aqua performed with every Hololive Japan talent from Generation Zero to 4th Generation. However, the stage was all hers for the final 30 minutes. With her voice cracking from crying, she began her final rendition of her first-ever original song, #Aqua Color Palette.

Minato Aqua may have left Hololive, but her passion, humor, and music remain in the hearts of her fellow talents and viewers.
