ESL Pro League Season 21 is about to kick off and the most competitive matchup of the opening round is MIBR vs Nemiga Gaming.
The ESL Pro League remains an incredible opportunity for up-and-coming teams to make a name for themselves. But of course, for bettors, that means that there are some serious pitfalls to work around. Those upstarts might just be regional-level teams on a hot streak and might just wind up facing off against some of the world’s best teams.
Season 21 is no different, as perceived mismatches like Eternal Fire vs Mindfreak actually have bets on Eternal Fire disallowed by some bookmakers.
On March 1, 2025, the Counter-Strike teams of Nemiga Gaming and MIBR are set to face off in the opening round of the ESL Pro League Season 21 Stage 1. Unlike Counter-Strike majors’ Swiss stages, this match is set to be a best-of-three series.
MIBR vs Nemiga Gaming is one of eight matches kicking off the first stage of league play, which begins with a “CS Swiss” stage where teams are seeded and need to win three out of five matches to advance.
For betting purposes, the odds on MIBR vs Nemiga are more competitive than almost anything else in the opening round of ESL Pro League Season 21. This is also one of the few matches involving two name-brand teams, bringing together Brazil’s most recognizable organization and a stalwart Eastern European squad.
Nemiga Gaming has been competing in various tier-two events in Europe to mixed results. The team won a hefty $150,000 paycheck in October from RES Regional Champions but since then, it’s been on a rollercoaster in online tournaments.
By Counter-Strike standards, Nemiga Gaming has had one of the most stable rosters in the game’s tier-two scene. The squad has been largely stable since 2023 and it hasn’t made a change since June 2024.
Nemiga Gaming has been very strong on Dust 2 in recent months, with a 5-1 record in the last three months. Past that? Everything else has looked shaky, with the team going 50-50 or worse across all maps.
MIBR been on a rocky road, but has also been competing in some of the biggest Counter-Strike events in recent months. It had a respectable run in the Shanghai Major in December but has burned the candle from both ends since then. It washed out early from IEM Katowice and PGL Cluj-Napoca, and fell short of qualifying for BLAST Open Spring 2025.
MIBR underwent a roster overhaul just a week ago, dropping André “drop” Abreu and booting out its coach. Here’s its current lineup:
There isn’t much to be said about MIBR’s map pool, as the team has hovered around a 50-50 record on most of them in recent months. The only exception is Anubis, where the team has gone 1-5.
MIBR and Nemiga Gaming have never played against one another. This is the first time the two teams will face off in their history.
MIBR is a 1.57 favorite against Nemiga, who stands as a 2.38 underdog as of this writing. This makes sense as MIBR is generally ranked as a fringe top-20 team while Nemiga usually stands outside the top 30. Nemiga also has limited recent experience in playing strong competition on LAN.
MIBR is very likely to win its matchup against Nemiga Gaming. In fact, the lines are likely under-selling the on-paper difference between these teams. Though MIBR has been stumbling of late, it’s been stumbling against teams like PGL Cluj-Napoca winners MOUZ and IEM Katowice winners Vitality. Nemiga has been posting similar results, but against significantly weaker competition.
Bookmakers have MIBR as a clear favorite against Nemiga, but maybe not clear enough. Make sure to check out the full odds and gamble responsibly. And of course, odds are subject to change as the match approaches.
