The closed qualifier for IEM Dallas saw a truly magical round from Fnatic’s rifler William “mezii” Merriman against EC Kyiv. He clutched a one versus five while starting the round with only a p250. mezii’s magic wasn’t enough, as Fnatic was eliminated from the qualifier.
Early in the first half, Kyiv hit Ancient’s A-site against some upgraded pistols. By the time mezii rotated from B, all his teammates had perished.
What followed would make cadiaN blush.
mezii’s antics weren’t enough for Fnatic as the team continued to struggle. After losing Entropiq in the opening round, they were eliminated by EC Kyiv in their second match.
This came despite a 14-5 lead on the final map, Ancient. Kyiv won a whopping 11 (!) rounds in a row to secure the map, series and keep their run alive.
For Fnatic, it marks another disappointing result. They recently failed to qualify for the PGL Antwerp Major and weren’t successful in their run to the BLAST Showdown.
The team, which has had a fluctuating roster recently, has to go back to the drawing board, as they won’t be able to play any notable tournaments in the upcoming months.
