Marvel Rivals has taken the gaming world by storm following its successful launch in December 2024. The competitive landscape of hero shooters is now being reshaped by this NetEase game. At Jaxon, we’re dedicated to bringing you the most insightful news and guides on Marvel Rivals gaming and esports.

Marvel Rivals is currently available on PC as well as consoles like the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. One significant reason for its spiraling into popularity is the ease with which casual players can understand the game mechanics. Another strong reason is that all the heroes in the Marvel Rivals roster are part of this game, being part of the Marvel Cinematic and Comic Universe.
Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play 6v6 hero shooter. Within the game, there are over 40 playable heroes following the release of Blade and Phoenix in Season 3.5 and Angela and Daredevil with Season 4. Within the game, there are three types of characters: Vanguard, Duelists and Strategists.
The game consists of three primary game modes:
There are also two arcade game modes:
On PC, Marvel Rivals is available on Steam. According to SteamDB, the game is ranked sixth in daily active users. This means that in 2025, the game will be one of the top five games that are being played daily.
When the game was launched back in December 2024, Season 0 was taking place in the game. At that point, the game had a peak player count of around 480,000. Since then, the game hit its highest peak of active users around January. This was due to it being the global launch of the game. The game had a peak of 644,269 players playing at once.
Using the data from the Steam marketplace, Marvel Rivals has a maximum of around 140,000 to 150,000 peak active users. Since the game’s launch, there has been a small spike in the number of users. When Season 2 was released worldwide on March 5th, over 315,000 players were playing the game. On Twitch, Marvel Rivals streamers collectively get a maximum of 62,000 concurrent viewers. Looking at the game’s trend, it seems that over time, the game has become less popular.
Since January 2025, multiple tournaments have been hosted. These tournaments have mostly taken place online. Currently, the five primary regions of the Marvel Rival Esports ecosystem are as follows:
The first tournament, the Marvel Rivals Invitational 2024, took place between December 20 and 22. As it was the first tournament, the event had a prize pool of $20,000.
Following the success of the first event, Marvel Rivals Invitational 2025 was hosted between February and March 2025. Each of the five primary regions mentioned above hosted a Marvel Rivals Invitational tournament. The prize pool for each regional tournament was $100,000.
Following the Marvel Rivals Invitational 2025, Marvel Rivals announced the Marvel Rivals Ignite 2025. The tournament is scheduled to take place over a span of 6 months between May and November 2025. Marvel Rivals Ignite 2025 will consist of 4 phases:
Recently, the Ignite Stage One and Mid-Season Finals of the tournament concluded in July. In regions like EMEA and the Americas, the regional Ignite Stage One tournament had a prize pool of $250,000. Whereas in China, Oceania, and Asia, the prize pool was $75,000 and $100,00, respectively. The Marvel Rivals Mid-Season Finals took place between August 6 and August 10, 2025. The tournament had a prize pool of $500,000. The event concluded with Rad EU being crowned the champions at the NetEase Headquarters II in Guangzhou, China.
Marvel Rival Ignite Stage Two will be taking place in all five regions from the September 1. The top four teams from each regional tournament will play in the Grand Finals of the tournament in November 2025. The grand finals will be a LAN event with a prize pool of $1 million.
