Angela has proven to be both beefy and bothersome across the ranks of Marvel Rivals, and players looking to rank up themselves will want to know which heroes are the best counters to her angelic presence.
Marvel Rivals fans asked for a flying vanguard, and after many seasons, it finally happened. Angela joins the roster in Season 4 as the game’s 11th Vanguard character. She’s not yet quite at the level of stalwarts Emma Frost and Magneto, but she can still be a pain if players don’t bring the right counters to deal with her.
Learn which characters can shut Angela down in Marvel Rivals, and what makes them effective counters to her kit.
The best counters for Angela in Marvel Rivals are The Thing, Emma Frost, Invisible Woman, Winter Soldier and any hit-scan DPS character.
The Thing has always been a solid counter to Wolverine, and he’s become the bane of Angela’s existence for similar reasons.
The Thing’s kit has everything that makes Angela nearly useless when played properly. The Vanguard’s passive grants resistance to crowd control, completely shutting down Angela when she tries to kidnap and drag tanks toward her team. His secondary attack and ultimate both counter flying enemies with the grounded effect, leaving Angela with few options against him. If she ever tries to target strategists, The Thing can leap to his allies to protect them. And the cherry on top is that even if Angela throws up a shield, The Thing’s punch can still break through it.
Angela struggles against heroes with CC immunity, hit-scan damage, or strong crowd controls. Well, Emma Frost happens to have all three and checks all those boxes, making her one of Angela’s toughest match-ups. She deals hit-scan damage, allowing her to reliably hit Angela even while she’s airborne, and her Diamond Form can prevent Angela from dragging her away. On top of that, a well-timed grab makes it much easier for Emma’s teammates to burst Angela down.

It turns out that Sue Storm can make playing Angela a nightmare. Fantastic Four teammate The Thing may have crowd-control immunity, but Angela has no such safeguard. This means any strong CC can shut her down, and Invisible Woman has exactly the tools for it.
Her Psionic Vortex pulls flying enemies down to the ground, which is especially effective against Angela. If the flying vanguard also tries to dive her, Sue can simply leap out of the zone. Finally, Invisible Woman can counter Angela’s Heaven’s Retribution ultimate. By pushing Angela during the second phase of her dive, Sue can cancel it outright.

The last thing an Angela main wants to run into in-game is a Bucky with cracked aim. Winter Soldier’s one of the best heroes at swatting flying units out of the sky. His Tainted Voltage knocks down fliers, keeping them out of the air for a precious few seconds that can feel like a lifetime for the affected player.
The duelist also has a hook ability that covers a pretty large distance and can grab Angela, which he can follow up with an uppercut that also prevents her from using her mobility ability for a second. A couple of headshots can then shred her health.

Naturally, hit-scan units have to be a part of this list. Hit-scan characters such as Hela, Punisher, Black Widow, and Hawkeye can clip any flying opponent out of the sky, provided you’re not whiffing your shots. Angela is tougher to deal with than someone like Iron Man or Human Torch because she’s so tanky, but hit-scan heroes are still effective counters to her thanks to how simple it is to track flying enemies with their weapons.
