Twitch has unexpectedly banned Lucy “LucyPyre” Pyre and many of her followers and fans of other vtubers are coming together to claim that the streaming platform is biased against vtubers as a result.
Lucy Pyre began her career as an independent vtuber on YouTube in 2021 and then expanded to livestreaming on Twitch in 2022. The vtuber makes various types of content for fans including beach, gaming, and singing streams. She has a laidback personality, but did get herself into trouble with Twitch in 2023, leading to a three-day suspension.
Lucy Pyre is now at odds with Twitch once again as the platform banned her channel on June 1, 2025. Viewers are divided as to whether the suspension is deserved or not. Some allege Twitch discriminates against vtubers, and others say the rules should be the same for all content creators.
Lucy Pyre claims she wasn’t informed about which community guideline she violated in her Twitch ban, which has further fueled allegations that Twitch is biased against vtubers.
News broke on social media of Lucy Pyre being banned and fans immediately began to speculate as to the reason why. The vtuber soon spoke out and questioned Twitch about the reason for her ban. She claimed that she was streaming in the pools category and was showing less skin than her previous bikini model allowed for. Lucy claimed there was no context in the email Twitch sent her regarding the ban. The vtuber wondered whether the platform had banned her for not adding a sexual theme label to her stream, given the nature of its content.
Some fans speculated that the vtuber was banned because of her attire. The vtuber’s skirt had a seam that showed part of her hip and thigh. Twitch’s Community Guidelines explicitly state what is appropriate attire and what is prohibited, and streamers are instructed to cover the area from their “hips to the bottom of the pelvis or buttocks.” Lucy herself tweeted the skirt and requested Twitch not ban her because she’d delete it. This implies that the vtuber knew the skirt would likely be bordering on breaking Twitch’s rules.
Some viewers have claimed that the outfit meets Twitch’s requirements and is appropriate for the pools category, alleging that Twitch has an agenda against vtubers and is discriminating against them. There is no proof of this accusation, but Twitch CEO Dan Clancy had acknowledged in the past that the platform is in some ways biased against vtubers. He had stated he’d look into the issue further at the time, but vtubers and fans claim the platform continues to be set against their favored form of content creators.
