A business consortium has revealed plans for a massive 25,000-seat indoor arena at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, East London. It is being called the “London Colosseum.”
The proposed venue is planned to become the UK’s premier hub for global esports, overtaking the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena to become the largest indoor stadium in the country.
According to the reports, this project is backed by Jericho Estates, Peacock Gym, and Torch Sports. It is planned to be London’s answer to massive gaming hubs in Asia and the Middle East.
Other than esports events, the Colosseum will also feature boxing cards, matches for the London NBA franchise, and more.
To ensure the venue can host multiple types of events, CHYBIK + KRISTOF ARCHITECTS designed the arena with an adaptive bowl configuration that allows the floor to scale according to the needs of the sport.
It can shift from an intimate esports’ setup to a 25,000-capacity layout for major international tournament finals. On the commercial side of the project, the plans also promise a low-carbon, multifunctional tower containing a hotel, residences, and community spaces to help make space functional even during off-seasons.
Keeping the growth of the UK’s competitive gaming scene in mind, the plans include a secondary site called the London Colosseum Academy. This campus will feature two smaller 3,000-seat venues alongside an international esports training campus, promising guidance for esports athlete pathways, technical research, and all aimed at supporting British grassroots talent.
Even the choice of location for the stadium has a history in esports. The neighborhood’s Copper Box Arena has hosted major tournaments for years, including League of Legends MSI and Rocket League RLCS events, and is scheduled to host VALORANT Masters London next month.
Despite the major announcement, the project still has a long way to go. The London Legacy Development Corporation, which owns the Olympic Park land, issued a statement clarifying that no formal agreement is currently in place to build the arena.
The consortium is currently using the public proposal to draw interest from major sports investors and secure active talks with international partners. If it successfully clears these landownership and planning hurdles, the London Colosseum could become a major landmark for British esports and live entertainment.
