The final step of the Swiss stage, Round 5 is upon us! Round 5 will be one single day, with 3 back-to-back Best of 3s between the last 6 teams left in the competition, the teams with a score of 2-2. The winning teams will join the other 5 teams that have qualified to the quarterfinals, while the losing ones will get to watch them.

CTBC Flying Oyster (1.55) vs FlyQuest (2.39)

  • This one is more of a toss-up than the ratings make it out to be. In fact, CFO might not be favored to win this match.
  • CFO has shown great performances at Worlds, and FlyQuest not so much. CFO won against T1 and took a game off of AL, while Fly was only able to beat VKS and TSW – teams among the lowest rated. This is particularly striking as CFO had low expectations, whereas high ones were placed on FlyQuest.
  • But CFO is facing the danger of a stylistic mismatch. FlyQuest’s strength is their capacity to play intelligently around objectives. To set them up well, and to take their fights from a strong point. And to know when to give up on them if they don’t look good, to try to make progress somewhere else and to avoid going for unnecessary risks. And what’s been CFO’s striking weakness at Worlds and domestically through the year? Their handling of objectives and of later fights. They throw themselves at objectives without correct preparation or without the need to take them. So Fly could very easily look to withstand CFO’s untamed aggression and to beat them on the objectives.
  • Second point in favor of the LTA: CFO has a small number of champions that they have a very comfortable game plan on. As the series progresses, this gets further exposed. And where else does Fly shine? In their champion pools! They play more or less the most champions out of any team, and mostly, having diverse picks is part of their core game plan rather than just something they can pull off.
  • However, there is a clear difference in form between the two teams. Again, CFO beat T1, went toe-to-toe with a top-performing AL and gave a run for their money to an equally strong HLE. Fly was very slightly below G2 and got run over by T1. In their respective current forms, the stylistic differences are not enough to push FlyQuest over the finish line.
  • But CFO has been driving downwards as the rounds went on. Their round 3 match was good but with clear mistakes, and round 4, a bit worse than it yet. If these two teams continue on this trajectory, the LTA’s first seed should take it.
  • Prediction: FLY wins 2-1.

Top Esports (2.21) vs Bilibili Gaming (1.63)

  • That’s a tough one. It’s a rematch of the LPL Grand Finals, so we could know how this will go. Except that both teams have been terrible since then! If they had not been matched against each other, both of these teams would have likely missed the playoffs.
  • TES started off incredibly strong, until Bo3s started and so did their systematic international choke. BLG, on the other hand, was just bad in all four rounds.
  • TES’s last game against GenG was them simply losing by themselves, with no input from the Koreans required. And BLG did their best to put themselves on the level of VKS, which is arguably not as bad. So it’ll be a fraud-off for the ages, where if TES can get some of their previous form back, they’ll easily win. But if not, BLG’s average looks better than their current shape.
  • Prediction: TES wins 2-1.

Moviestar KOI (6.14) vs T1 (1.11)

  • Finally a clear-cut match! T1 has not looked good at the 2025 LoL Worlds, that isn’t new and it’s the story of all the 2-2 teams. But MKOI has been far worse.
  • MKOI’s last series against TSW was a disaster. In game 1, Supa had the single worst game out of any player at this tournament. And he had a 5-minute sequence of play – recalling with the shop open in front of an enemy, twice in a row, overextending to be caught in a gank, overextending again to get right-clicked to death by Yunara, holding flash too long, then flashing to waste it and still die while also not using barrier – that made it seem like he was already having too long a day, 10 minutes into game 1. And while that was the worst offender, the other games and the other players weren’t too much better either, Jojo aside.
  • In comparison to MKOI’s current level, T1 is the best team in the world. And Supa does not look like someone who wants to be in the playoffs.
  • Prediction: T1 wins 2-0.

Round 4 preview and predictions

tips: lol worlds 2025 preview and predictions round 4

Image: Riot Games / LoL Esports via X (@lolesports)

Once again, round 4 spans over 3 days:

  • Day 1 (Wednesday, October 22nd) will have the first two qualification matches
  • Day 2 (Thursday, October 23rd), the first elimination match and last qualification one.
  • Finally, day 3 (Friday, October 24th) will see the remaining two elimination matches played.

After day 3, round 5 will begin immediately after on the 25th, and will be one single day.

Best of 3 qualification matches

CTBC Flying Oyster (3.35) vs Hanwha Life Esports (1.31)

  • CFO has proven to be a worthy contestant in this tournament. The LCP first seed beat T1, and had a competitive series against an AL that’s at the top of its form. For a moment in the process, they made us believe that they could 3-0 the Swiss stage.
  • But HLE has looked pristine. Like CFO, they got their one loss against Anyone’s Legend, but displayed a better level of play in that game. Against them, CFO had one great game, followed by one where everything would just go slightly wrong, and a third one where they got straight up outclassed. HLE, on the other hand, played nearly flawlessly and AL was simply slightly better.
  • Despite stating that they’re a worse team in Bo1s, CFO has once again shown its weaknesses in longer series. They have a limited number of game plans they’re comfortable on, and that can cost them against HLE the same way it did against AL. They can run out of champions to execute these game plans on.
  • I easily see CFO take one game off of HLE, but I think HLE will have no trouble withstanding the Oysters over the series.
  • Prediction: HLE wins 2-1 and qualifies to the Knockout stage. CFO goes to 2-2 and will get one final chance in round 5.

G2 Esports (1.7) vs FlyQuest (2.09)

  • Oh boy. The one EU vs NA match-up for all the marbles. With both leagues being mostly seen as two one-team regions, the showdown of both of said one teams stakes all the bragging rights.
  • And I can’t realistically say that G2 is favored in this matchup. They can for sure win, and it wouldn’t be a surprise. But FLY should take it.
  • G2 has been shaky in both of their wins, falling down in the early game before catching up thanks to their opponent making bigger mistakes. And G2 is for sure good at punishing these heavily. But if FLY gets their scaling carry ahead, they know how to solidify around it and to leave little room for catching up.
  • It has to be noted that FLY has had a very easy road so far. They had one strong opponent in T1, but they got demolished by them. As for the rest, they faced TSW and VKS, two of the worst teams in the tournament. And while G2’s opponents weren’t the strongest either, FlyQuest might have weaknesses that just haven’t been exposed yet.
  • Prediction: FLY wins 2-1 and qualifies to the Knockout stage. G2 goes to 2-2 and will get one final chance in round 5.

Gen.G (1.25) vs Top Esports (3.71)

Note: This is the one exception to matches being in chronological order. GenG vs TES and MKOI vs TSW are played on the same day, but MKOI vs TSW will be held first.

  • GenG got one shocking loss against AL. However, in none of their three games at Worlds did they look anywhere below excellent. They’re the top team they’ve been for most of the year, with precious few weaknesses to attack.
  • GenG is also a team who can cover their bases early on, to then focus on objectives and later game teamfights that they excel at. Against TES, known for giving up advantages randomly (yes, JackeyLove, we’re looking at you), this shouldn’t bode well for the LPL.
  • Top Esports also looked incredible for their first two games. They beat an HLE who was in equally good form, and gave no chance to 100T. Then came round 3. And suddenly, as they have done in every high stakes situation at Worlds in each of their appearances, they choked. They posed no threat to KT – KT! – and rolled over for a 2-0 loss. Judging by past outcomes, TES is unlikely to correct the course now. They can qualify. But not against GenG.
  • Prediction: GenG wins 2-0 and qualifies to the Knockout stage. TES goes to 2-2 and will get one final chance in round 5.

Best of 3 elimination matches

Moviestar KOI (1.26) vs Team Secret Whales (3.64)

  • This match should be uninspiring. Exciting, very likely, but uninspiring. We’re looking at the bottom of the barrel brawling it out.
  • MKOI could only win against Fnatic, who had a terrible run. Even current-level-BLG got the better of them. But since TSW got their one win against VKS, they’re not doing better there either.
  • MKOI should still win this one. Their bases are better, and they’re finding good plays in the early game. They happily throw them away afterwards, which is why I think TSW will take one game, but I believe they should be able to hold their lead against that team in most cases.
  • Prediction: MKOI wins 2-1. MKOI moves to 2-2, TSW is out of the tournament.

Bilibili Gaming (1.05) vs Vivo Keyd Stars (8.98)

  • One of the Worlds favorites who has been playing terribly all event long, versus one of the worst teams at the tournament, who has shown some fire.
  • Still, VKS can’t punch anywhere that high. BLG can make plays to get a lead, or force mistakes to reclaim it, and I don’t see VKS surviving against that. It would be an amazing story. But VKS winning would be the least likely outcome of round 4.
  • Prediction: BLG wins 2-0. BLG moves to 2-2, VKS is out of the tournament.

100 Thieves (8.85) vs T1 (1.05)

  • With that draw, 100 Thieves got to face LPL #1, LPL #3, LCK #2, and now LCK #4. If they reach quarters, that’ll be the most deserved playoffs spot a Western team has ever claimed.
  • Unfortunately, they likely won’t. Despite their Swiss form, the T1 that showed up in the play-ins would beat 100. And it’s not even a strong version of T1.
  • Now, T1 has weaknesses. They can be punished on their champion pools, on Faker’s laning phase, or on Doran’s inconsistency. The Thieves were able to do something similar against BLG on day 1, there is a chance that they could do it again. But I don’t think the odds are in their favor. And I see the more likely option as T1 just winning two games before being stretched out too much on their picks.
  • That said, I believe their chances of an upset are higher than the betting odds.
  • Prediction: T1 wins 2-0. T1 moves to 2-2, 100 is out of the tournament.

Round 3 preview and predictions

LoL Worlds Swiss stage: Round 3 preview and predictions

Image: Riot Games / LoL Esports via X (@lolesports)

Day 1: Best of 3 qualification matches

KT Rolster (3.02) vs Top Esports (1.36)

  • Top Esports has played out of their mind in both of their games so far. They stomped G2 without it being due to a poor performance from them. And 100 Thieves was a similar story today.
  • KT, on the other hand, did not have good showings in the first two days. Both KOI and TSW got strong early leads before throwing them away. And while KT is 2-0 as well, these wins are them playing badly and their opponents being even worse, more so than a show of strength on their part. With KOI and TSW as their opponents, they’ve also had a very easy first two games.
  • Facing EU and NA, TES did also get a relatively easy road so far. And while these two did not play poorly by any means, it’s possible that a stronger opponent wouldn’t give Top Esports enough room to play as well as they have. JackeyLove also keeps having his signature ints several times a game, and that could cost TES against a team that can punish them. But KT does not look to be that opponent. And particularly not with their early game weaknesses.
  • Prediction: TES wins 2-0 and qualifies to the Knockout stage. KT moves to 2-1 and will get two more chances to advance.

CTBC Flying Oyster (3.28) vs Anyone’s Legend (1.31)

  • We knew that CFO could punch far above their theoretical weight. But they sure proved it yesterday by taking down T1 and getting their revenge after MSI. The Flying Oyster’s win was a convincing stomp.
  • Anyone’s Legend, though, has played two basically perfect games. Both HLE and GenG played really well, followed their game plan, executed well, picked and contested fights cleanly, and so did AL. So that 2-0 scoreline comes from pristine performances on their part, completely different from their Summer form. They’ve also already beaten the two theoretical strongest teams at Worlds.
  • In the game against T1 yesterday, CFO’s jungler Junjia had a number of really good plays. He also had a couple of unexplainable terrible moments that risked putting T1 back in the driver’s seat, and that’s a scary perspective for today.
  • One point in CFO’s favor, though: [CFO’s coach Chawy stated that Bo1s were this team’s weakness, being stronger in Bo3s and Bo5s. They made it 2-0 in Bo1s, perhaps the Fearless Draft boons can give them the advantages they need to edge out AL.
  • Prediction: AL wins 2-1 and qualifies to the Knockout stage. CFO moves to 2-1 and will get two more chances to advance.

Day 2: Best of 1 matches

FlyQuest (1.31) vs Team Secret Whales (3.26)

  • FLY is performing as expected, and so is TSW. And they’ve both taken down VKS, and lost to their Korean opponent.
  • FlyQuest should be a clear step above TSW, both being in regular shape.
  • Prediction: FLY wins 1-0. FLY goes to 2-1, TSW to 1-2.

Gen.G (1.53) vs T1 (2.4)

  • A GenG loss was definitely not expected at all, and that puts us in a tricky situation.
  • GenG have had T1’s number almost all year long. But all matches were close, and GenG clutched out thanks to T1’s shallow champion pools making their games 4 and 5 weaker. In a Bo1, the first seed no longer has this advantage.
  • Both teams just lost, but GenG’s game was really good, and they just got edged out. T1 can’t say the same about their own loss.
  • Prediction: GenG wins 1-0. GenG goes to 2-1, T1 to 1-2.

G2 Esports (2.92) vs Bilibili Gaming (1.37)

  • A true Worlds classic matchup! At least, this year, G2 won’t be eliminated from Swiss by BLG. But history is not in Europe’s favor in that matchup.
  • Theoretical level doesn’t speak for them, either. BLG are a terrifying team, and the LPL is certainly on a much higher standing than Europe as of now.
  • Form is another story, though. G2’s loss wasn’t bad, although their win had glaring flaws too, with an exploitable early game. BLG is in a similar spot, but worse. Their win against Fnatic proved nothing other than questioning the LEC getting three slots at Worlds.
  • I’m not sure which team to call it for. G2 should win if BLG remains in that shape, but that’s an if. But G2’s chances are for sure higher than their betting odds.
  • Prediction: G2 wins 1-0. G2 goes to 2-1, BLG to 1-2.

Hanwha Life Esports (1.12) vs 100 Thieves (5.72)

  • The Thieves shocked the world on day 1 by destroying BLG. And while that was in part due to a terrible showing by Bilibili Gaming, 100T also played amazingly themselves. But then came day 2, and 100 faced TES. They didn’t play poorly either, but they were no match for an LPL team that wasn’t in a slump.
  • Now, HLE is one of the top 4 teams at the tournament. On paper, they should be better than Top Esports. In practice, they’re likely at the same level right now. I think the Thieves would need a miracle to take it. But then again… it wouldn’t be their first this week.
  • Prediction: HLE wins 1-0. HLE goes to 2-1, 100 to 1-2.

Day 3: Best of 3 elimination matches

Moviestar KOI (1.68) vs Fnatic (2.1)

  • KOI was bad in both games. Against KT, they got a 4k lead before throwing it away, and against G2, they started ahead once more and fully fumbled from there as well. They’re not looking good.
  • But Fnatic? Fnatic couldn’t play the first game due to a draft that had about a third of the damage it needed to take down Sion alone. That happens. Their game 2, though, that one isn’t excusable. Probably the single worst showing out of any team at this tournament, it could only be explained as a team playing without voice chat or pings, or the ability to remember their game plan or understand the opponent’s.
  • KOI has been unconvincing enough that Fnatic waking up for one game and not losing by themselves could allow them to strike back once.
  • Prediction: KOI wins 2-1. KOI goes to 1-2, FNC is eliminated from Worlds.

Vivo Keyd Stars (4.17) vs PSG Talon (1.22)

  • Another matchup between two of the bottom 3 teams at the tournament. They’ve both fought well so far, and they’ve certainly put more heart into their matches than a certain European team. But they’re just outclassed.
  • The LCP is still far better than the LTA South.
  • Prediction: PSG wins 2-0. PSG goes to 1-22, VKS is eliminated from Worlds.

Round 2 preview and predictions

LoL Worlds Swiss stage: Round 2 preview and predictions

Image: Riot Games / LoL Esports via X (@lolesports)

FlyQuest (1.23) vs Vivo Keyd Stars (4.02)

  • This is a rematch of the LTA Cross-Conference Grand Finals, which FlyQuest won convincingly.
  • However, FLY did not look in good shape in their game against T1. VKS, on the other hand, were in their regular form. Also, their one win against FlyQuest was a stomp. This shouldn’t turn the tide, but the outcome is less certain than it could have been.
  • Prediction: FLY wins 1-0. FLY goes to 1-1, VKS to 0-2.

Team Secret Whales (5.02) vs KT Rolster (1.16)

  • KT did not look good against KOI. KOI was playing poorly, and even then, the European team was far ahead in the lead until the scheduled Atakhan throw™.
  • We’re still looking at a team from the LCK against the LCP’s second seed.
  • Prediction: KT wins 1-0. KT goes to 2-0, TSW to 1-1.

Moviestar KOI (2.55) vs G2 Esports (1.48)

  • This is a rematch of the LEC Summer Grand Finals, which G2 swept in a 3-0 stomp.
  • G2 is also 13-6 against KOI this year, and 6-1 in the head-to-head in Summer.
  • Additionally, KOI’s performance against KT was bad. While on the other side of the Rift, G2 folded to TES but without making mistakes. They simply fell prey to a well-executed early stomping comp.
  • Prediction: G2 wins 1-0. G2 goes to 1-1, KOI to 0-2.

Top Esports (1.15) vs 100 Thieves (5.04)

  • On paper, this should be a guaranteed TES win: a terrifying team from the LPL, facing an LTA team that lost to VKS.
  • TES also showed up in their peak form against G2 yesterday. They have a really high ceiling and always choke at Worlds, but so far, it’s the high ceiling part that has been demonstrated.
  • That said, 100 Thieves just took out BLG in what is currently the biggest upset of the tournament. With BLG being the team that has had Top Esports’ number. On the other hand, while 100 had a great showing, that game was also the result of BLG playing terribly.
  • Prediction: TES wins 1-0. TES goes to 2-0, 100 to 1-1.

CTBC Flying Oyster (3.37) vs T1 (1.3)

  • An LCP team versus T1 should always spell a win for Korea. But CFO isn’t just any LCP team – this squad is probably the strongest team to ever come from this region.
  • At MSI, CFO took T1 to 5 games. And CTBC Flying Oyster suffers from Fearless Bo5 even more than T1 does.
  • So, while I think T1 should take it, I would definitely not bet with these odds, and I would give CFO a 40% chance to win.
  • Prediction: T1 wins 1-0. T1 goes to 2-0, CFO to 1-1.

Gen.G (1.47) vs Anyone’s Legend (2.59)

  • AL looked good yesterday, and their win against HLE was the second upset of the day. Either they can punch above their theoretical weight, or they have been underrated.
  • But they are still looking at GenG, who will be favored against every opponent they face.
  • Prediction: GenG wins 1-0. GenG goes to 2-0, AL to 1-1.

Bilibili Gaming (1.24) vs Fnatic (3.86)

  • Neither team played well yesterday. With that being said, FNC gave itself an unwinnable game through the draft. Two low-damage carries and nothing else to go through a Sion and a Xin Zhao? It didn’t matter how FNC played, the damage wasn’t going to magically appear.
  • BLG, on the other hand, just looked awful during the game. Now, do I think an awful BLG would win against a not-so-great Fnatic? Yes, very much so. I also have more faith in BLG getting back into shape than in FNC showing up out of nowhere.
  • Prediction: BLG wins 1-0. BLG goes to 1-1, FNC to 0-2.

Hanwha Life Esports (1.14) vs PSG Talon (5.22)

  • PSG fought valiantly yesterday, but fought against GenG, and it takes more than valiance to beat them.
  • HLE is 0-1 as well, but their loss was written in thin margins between two teams that had a very solid performance. A key component of AL’s win against them was a support Neeko claiming the Dragon soul with her Q, which I don’t expect to happen again in the tournament.
  • Prediction: HLE wins 1-0. HLE goes to 1-1, PSG to 0-2.

Round 1 preview and predictions

lol worlds swiss 2025 prediction round 1

Image: Riot Games / LoL Esports via X (@lolesports)

Vivo Keyd Stars (2.27) vs Team Secret Whales (1.6)

  • Those two teams should be bottom 3 or 4, so this match is more of a toss-up than any other.
  • TSW is favored due to representing a better region.
  • VKS won against 100, so the upset chances remain high.
  • Prediction: TSW wins 1-0.

CTBC Flying Oyster (1.54) vs Fnatic (2.41)

  • CFO has shown to be an actual force at previous internationals this year. They can go toe to toe with even LCK teams.
  • FNC, on the other hand, are consistent only in their ability to disappoint.
  • Even without their inconsistencies, Fnatic is a clear step below CFO unless they’ve cleaned up their act in the past month.
  • Prediction: CFO wins 1-0.

Moviestar KOI (3.27) vs KT Rolster (1.32)

  • This is a Korean team versus a European team that’s not G2.
  • KT is the shakiest team from the LCK, and KOI could pull off one-game miracles. This match being a Bo1 could save KOI’s life.
  • KT is still a top 3 LCK team.
  • Prediction: KT wins 1-0.

Bilibili Gaming (1.07) vs 100 Thieves (7.72)

  • BLG is the LPL champion. 100 Thieves lost their last match against an LTA South team and should be bottom 4 at this tournament.
  • Prediction: BLG wins 1-0.

FlyQuest (3.83) vs T1 (1.24)

  • FlyQuest is a dark horse and a master of upsets, who can pull off surprises in Bo1s and Bo5s alike.
  • T1 has also not looked great in play-ins, or regionally. Faker and Doran in particular were not convincing yesterday.
  • That said, T1 is still T1. Additionally, this team is stronger in Bo1s or Bo3s than Bo5s.
  • Prediction: T1 wins 1-0.

Hanwha Life Esports (1.53) vs Anyone’s Legend (2.44)

  • AL has been more and more underwhelming as the Summer split went on. The team is no longer on par with its MSI self.
  • On the other hand, HLE has found its form again and was a top 2 team coming into Worlds.
  • Prediction: HLE wins 1-0.

G2 Esports (2.22) vs Top Esports (1.64)

  • Looking at G2 at MSI or at TES regionally, the LPL representatives should be clear favorites. This is also the mind’s pick.
  • G2 has clearly levelled up in Summer. They also enter Worlds with a mindset of playing their own game instead of bowing down to the East’s meta.
  • On the other hand, TES always finds a way to disappoint at internationals.
  • Prediction: G2 wins 1-0.

Gen.G (1.03) vs PSG Talon (10.59)

  • The best team in the world, facing probably the worst team at Worlds.
  • Prediction: GenG wins 1-0.
