Riot Games released a 15-minute long video recently, covering Riot’s plan for future updates. Besides Preseason 2023 jungle changes and new skins, Riot announced three new champions, two upcoming mid-scope updates, Aurelion Sol CGU, and more coming soon to Lol.
Shortly after a Preseason 2023 dev post unintentionally popped up and then quickly deleted on the Garena website, Riot conveniently decided it was time for an official update.
The first champion coming to LoL teased by Ryan “Reav3” Mireles, League of Legends lead gameplay producer, is a tank top laner. The champion was briefly mentioned in the April Champion roadmap, but now Reav3 shared more details.
K’Sante comes from the oasis city-state Nazumah, a region of Shurima that hasn’t been seen yet in Lol lore. K’Sante leads the warriors of Nazumah, who have a mission to hunt down giant monsters that wanted to take Nazumah’s water sources in the past.
Although Reav3 didn’t reveal any K’Sante’s abilities, he stated that the new high-skill tank top laner uses a weapon called Ntofos.
“Ntofos are huge, blunt weapons that can be used defensively. But at any moment, he can shatter them, revealing carefully crafted blades, capable of tearing through any foe in seconds.”
Keep in mind that K’Sante is supposed to be a tank, so him having the ability to “tear through foes in seconds” sounds a bit scary. But hey, let’s not pretend like we didn’t have a tank that oneshots people before—looking at you, Mr. Ornn.
Besides K’Sante, Reav3 spoke about two more champions coming a bit further down the line.
Firstly, we have a fourth Darkin champion coming to League of Legends after Aatrox, Varus, and Rhaast(Kayn’s red form). The most important and the coolest aspect of Darkin champions is them being trapped inside a weapon.
Even though Reav3 didn’t reveal much (unless the joke of him waking up at 2:34 A.M. is an actual hint), he confirmed that the champion will be an assassin trapped in a Darkin dagger.
Finally, Reav3 teased a male enchanter from Ixtal, which is still in “very early development.”
Besides the Aurelion Sol CGU(Comprehensive Gameplay Update) and Ahri VFX update coming our way soon, Riot announced more champions receiving “mini-reworks” or mid-scope updates, as Riot calls them.
Mid-scope updates aim to “freshen up” some older champions that are not performing without changing the champions’ theme, visuals, or gameplay.
Riot fairly successfully released mid-scope updates to Janna, Ahri, Swain, Talyah, Olaf, and Sivir in 2022. Furthermore, they want to keep making these types of updates, and the next on the list are Synda and Neeko.
