The definitive LoL Arena tier list: Best champions and augments

LoL Arena mode

The Arena game mode in LoL is very different compared to a standard game on Summoner’s Rift, and out tier list of the best champions and augments can give you a big advantage.

League of Legends frequently introduces new and fresh game modes that differ from the regular ranked and normal modes. From the fast-paced Brawl mode to the chaotic Hexakill, some become fan-favorites that prompt Riot to bring them up more frequently. This has proven to be the case with Arena.

Several teams of two champions each are pitted against each other in a tournament-style format. Using a tier list featuring the strongest champions and augments for the Arena game mode can help LoL players to string together victories.

Who are the best champions in League of Legends’ Arena mode?

The best champions to use in the Arena mode in League of Legends include Tryndamere, Yasuo, Ambessa, Zyra, and Cho’Gath.

These five champions are the best for this game mode for varying reasons. While some utilize their high damage to shred enemies, others have so much sustainability that taking them down is a real chore for enemy teams.

Tryndamere

It’s no surprise that Tryndamere boasts the highest win rate in the Arena game mode out of the many LoL champions. In addition to having excellent sustained damage, crit scaling, and dueling power, the player also synergizes excellently with any tanky front-liner to build momentum while his ally attracts the enemy’s focus and attention.

If things begin to fall apart, Tryndamere always has his trump card. The champion’s ultimate ability is invaluable in the chaotic Arena mode, where champions can easily become strong enough to shred each other in seconds. Since it lets him be invulnerable for a period of time, a player with the right augments can use Tryndamere’s ultimate to make quick work of the enemy before they have a chance to respond.

Yasuo

Yasuo is easily in the top five best champions for the Arena mode because of his excellent mobility. The champion has dashes that he can use to get through walls, making it easier to run away and replenish health through power flowers. Pair that with his wind wall, which can mitigate incoming damage or split up enemy players, and a Yasuo player can comfortably create chaos.

This is not to mention that Yasuo scales well off attack speed and critical strike. Considering these two stats have multiple useful augments, Yasuo can easily snowball into a carry who instantly punishes enemies. This champion can become even more useful when paired with someone who can apply crowd control effects easily, such as Amumu or Twisted Fate.

Ambessa

Ambessa’s mobility makes her a top-tier champion in LoL’s Arena mode. With her reliable engage ability, burst damage, and mobility combos making quick work of enemies, she can go in and get out without giving other players much time to react. Then there’s Ambessa’s ultimate, which can let her dive in and easily eliminate squishy champions.

However, it’s crucial to pair Ambessa with a tanky front-line teammate who can sponge much of the damage and attention away from her. This will let her dive while her partner holds the front, making for a team with high synergy and increasing the odds of victory.

Zyra

Arena is a game mode that sees players battling in small spaces, which is why Zyra can be such an effective champion. With her plants letting her control space and forcing the enemy players to play around them, Zyra can slowly trim down the health of enemy champions and pave the path for her ally to eliminate them.

Zyra’s ultimate is also extremely effective thanks to its AoE damage and wide radius. Using it at the right time can CC both opposing champions and deal high damage to them. Pairing Zyra with a champion like Yasuo, who can swiftly finish off damaged enemies, is usually the way to go.

Cho’Gath

Cho’Gath is one of the top-ranking champions in Arena for multiple reasons. The biggest one is his ultimate, which lets him deal tremendous burst damage to targets with high health, making it excellent for landing a last hit on otherwise tough champions or getting an instant advantage in longer fights.

Besides his ultimate, Cho’Gath also boasts a high health pool of his own and multiple crowd-control abilities, letting him soak damage while knocking up or silencing enemies. Having good synergy with all of the other champions mentioned on this list, Cho’Gath’s ability to endure and remain relevant even in the later rounds has won many players their Arena games.

What are the best Arena mode augments?

The best augments in Arena mode include Jeweled Gauntlet, Thread the Needle, Tank Engine, Marksmage, and Scopier Weapons.

All five of these augments are among the most-picked because they enhance strong abilities that certain champions already possess. From giving straight-up stat buffs to increasing champion attacks and abilities far beyond what’s possible in normal modes, these augments are the cream of the crop.

Jeweled Gauntlet

  • Your abilities can critically strike. Gain 25% crit chance.

Fights are usually fairly short in Arena mode, which means that champions with greater damage spikes typically win. Since multiple champions rely heavily on spells or abilities rather than their auto-attacks, letting them scale off of critical strike makes their abilities more threatening. The Jeweled Gauntlet augment alone can turn a mage champion into a powerhouse who can deal massive burst damage.

Thread the Needle

  • Gain 20% armor penetration and magic penetration.

Tanks and bruisers rely on their high health pools and magic resistance to survive prolonged fights. Having the means to penetrate armor and magic can help physical and magical damage-dealing champions to shine. Poke-heavy champions in particular can really benefit from this augment.

Tank Engine

  • Gain a 15% increase in size and 5% bonus health per takedown.

The increase in size is just a cosmetic buff. The strong point of this augment is the 5% bonus health per takedown. With increased durability for every takedown accrued, this augment can help champions who usually only focus on increasing their damage to also get some meaningful sustainability.

Marksmage

  • Your attacks deal additional physical damage equal to 100% of ability power.

This augment bridges the gap between AP and AD damage scaling, letting champions become more versatile. For champions like Veigar who typically only focus on ability power, having a means to increase the physical attack damage can be a significant boon when facing opponents who attempt to stack up magic resistance.

Scopier Weapons

  • Gain 200 attack range, reduced to 100 if you’re ranged.

Scopier Weapons augment lets players damage enemies from farther out, increasing kiting potential and keeping themselves safer in the process. This augment can also be used to take Power Flowers from a safe distance or to revive allies when they’re stuck in Elise’s webbing, putting it near the top of our Arena augments tier list in LoL.
