Trailblazers encounter all sorts of weird, wild, and generally unanticipated things in Honkai: Star Rail, and eldritch abominations in the form of aeons dropping by to chat are certainly among them.
The space gods of Honkai: Star Rail are called aeons, and their existence and interactions with the universe lay the groundwork for a lot of the game’s story. People who follow the path of an aeon can become an emanator, given a fragment of their power to use. Since aeons are the basis for portions of the playable characters’ powers and abilities, it can be helpful to know more about them. That knowledge will also help players understand Honkai: Star Rail’s story more deeply.
With that in mind, here are all of the currently known aeons as of Honkai: Star Rail version 2.3.
Aha is chaotic to the nth degree, often making small but deeply impactful changes to mortal lives to see how they react. Their teachings focus on finding joy in life, although their interference often causes great suffering as well. They fill a trickster god role as one of the aeons in Honkai: Star Rail, pulling fun little pranks like giving a worm “fathomless intelligence” to see if it could get into the Genius Society. It didn’t, and the worm died when Aha moved on to their next project. The path of elation is not currently playable, but it does provide blessings in the Simulated Universe.
Akivili is the creator of the Astral Express, and traveled aboard it alongside the Nameless to see all of the unknown the universe has to offer. While the Path of Trailblaze is not playable, it is integral to the philosophy of the Astral Express and its crew as players adventure through the cosmos. Sometime before the beginning of the game, Akivili disappeared and is presumed deceased according to Himeko.
Rules and regulations in the form of a god, Ena rejected all forms of chaos and governed their planets with strict laws to ensure their growth. THEY used THEIR power to stop many calamitous events before the beginning of the game for the safety of their worlds. According to Herta in Dev Log1, though, these societies “all eventually hit rock bottom because of Order.” Ena was eventually subsumed by Xipe, The Harmony, due to overlap in their domains.
Fuli records and remembers just as their path suggests. They act as a recordkeeper, historian, and librarian of the universe, and show up regularly during historic events. They also gift some power to a group known as the memokeepers, releasing them from their mortal coil so they can traverse the universe. All that said, Herta refers to Fuli as “particularly enigmatic” since their history is unknown.
In Honkai: Star Rail, the equilibrium is perfectly balanced, as all things should be. The aeon has used its inhuman intellect and logic to create an equation that places the universe in perfect equilibrium and uses its emanators to enforce its calculations. They appear in the Simulated Universe to provide blessings.
Nihility is the first playable path on this list, represented by the aeon IX. They believe the universe will be reduced to nothing, so there is no point in anything. They lead a peaceful existence, but inflict psychic damage on anyone near them with their aura of nihilism. Some characters that follow this aeon’s path in Honkai: Star Rail are Kafka, Archeron, and Black Swan.
Idrila taught their followers about the meaning within different forms of art and the universe as a whole. They know the patterns in the stars, the true meaning behind the universe, and why the curtains are blue. Although this aeon has disappeared, their followers, the mirror holders, believe that they can be returned by collecting relics associated with them.
Lan presides as the aeon of the playable path of the hunt in Honkai: Star Rail. Lan is the subject of the Xianzhou myth of the Reignbow Arbiter and serves as the alliance’s primary aeon. The data bank entry on Lan reveals that they hate the aeon of Abundance and hunt them and their undead throughout the universe. Playable characters following the Path of the Hunt include Dan Heng, Dr. Ratio, and Seele.
Although deceased, Long is said to have discovered the meaning of life, the revelation of permanence. Some characters in Honkai: Star Rail philosophize over what the meaning they found is, ranging from being remembered, passing on their bloodline, or keeping the universe safe. Long scioned the draconic people known as the Vidyadhara, including Dan Heng.
Mythus, as their title suggests, is a mystery. Their uncertainty comes in direct conflict with Nous the Erudition, and they seek unanswerable riddles for the all-answering machine. There is more information about them available, but this aeon becomes directly involved with certain story beats in Honkai: Star Rail that will remain a mystery.
The main antagonist of Honkai: Star Rail in the golden-scarred flesh, this aeon leads the Antimatter Legion on their path of destruction. The path of destruction is a playable path encompassing the Trailblazer themself, Klara, and the upcoming character Yunli, among others. To stop them from erasing the universe they deemed a mistake, the trailblazers may need to figure out how to kill an aeon.
Nous is a supercomputer-turned-aeon and represents the playable path of erudition in Honkai: Star Rail. They worked tirelessly to calculate the answer to the universe, and spent most of their time in deep thought until recently. For unknown reasons, they have ceased to search for the universe’s answer, but will still answer questions posed to them by mortals, albeit they will only answer with more questions. Beggars can’t be choosers. Herta, Himeko, and Serval are examples of playable path of erudition characters.
Oroboros is a dusk leviathan that managed to ascend to aeonhood. They devour worlds and leave nothing in their wake. They may eat their own tail, or they might just share a name with the tail-eater. No one knows for sure. According to Herta’s first dev log, Oroboros has “vanished without a trace,” but whether that will remain true in the future is anyone’s guess.
The builder of walls, Qlipoth dedicates themself to keeping Oroboros and living worlds separated. They construct aubspace crystalline barriers like the Echidna Skywall and desire near total isolation of the planets they protect. However, they are generally indifferent to mortal beings as a whole. As an aeon in Honkai: Star Rail, Qlipoth provides powers through the path of preservation, leading to emanators like March 7th and Gepard.
Tayzzyronth is a simple aeon with a simple goal to propagate. They infinitely produce more copies of themself, spreading and causing so much damage that other aeons sealed them in amber. Before that happened, they created the swarm, including the enemy boss Starcrusher Swarm King: Skaracabaz that Ruan Mei synthesized a replica of in version 1.6.
There is a lot to be gleaned from Terminus’s name and title. They were born at the end of time and travel backwards towards the beginning, making pit stops at every “moment of finality” to disperse prophecies. The path of finality is in direct opposition to the path of trailblaze, conceptualizing an end to endless exploration.
Xipe is the aeon presiding over the playable path of harmony in Honkai: Star Rail. Their design incorporates the puzzle pieces of their body fitting together perfectly, hinting at the fact that they are actually thousands of beings acting in perfect unison. Playable characters from the path of harmony include Asta, Bronya, and Robin.
A benevolent aeon, Yaoshi regularly heeds the calls of mortals to relieve them of death and suffering. They will grant long life to those who ask for it, as they hate death. This comes at a cost known as mara, where long-lived species will lose their sanity and become beasts as the years tick on. This irony is why artifacts gifted by Yaoshi are known as plaguemarks to the Xianzhou Alliance. Path of abundance characters include Luocha, Lynx, and Natasha.
