The League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) has pulled over a million peak viewers during week five of the regular season. The match, which took place on May 1, 2026, saw the two Korean juggernauts clash as fans tuned into the competition in huge numbers, per statistics by Esports Charts.
While the argument that Western League of Legends is losing its relevance has become more prominent lately, the Eastern scene, especially the Asian side of the game’s esports broadcast, has just set yet another record.
The viewership peeak occurred on Day 3 of Week 5. With a lot at stake, the defending world champions, T1, led by the legendary Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, faced off against a rising Hanwha Life Esports.
According to data from Esports Charts, the series drew over 1.2 million peak viewers. The high stakes contributed significantly to the interest as HLE was fighting to maintain its grip on first place.
On the other hand, T1 was desperate to climb the standings to secure a better seed for the upcoming LCK 2026 Road to MSI. In a tense 2–1 series, Hanwha Life Esports claimed the win, extending their winning streak to eight games and securing their position at the top of the table.
For years, the LCK has been dominated by the “Big Two”: T1 and Gen.G. However, 2026 has introduced new juggernauts, serving as a testament to how the regional scene has grown.
The current LCK top four standings are as follows:
The rise of HLE and KT Rolster as genuine title contenders has rejuvenated fan interest. While T1 has struggled with consistency throughout the first half of the season, its presence remains a primary driver of the league’s growth.
While the Eastern side of League is seeing such promising growth, the same cannot be said for Western LoL esports.
With recent reports of Eastern titles like MLBB dethroning League as the most-watched esports, and well-known content creators expressing frustration over growing controversies, the Western competitive scene currently doesn’t look likely to challenge the Eastern scene’s dominance any time soon.
The number is less about one matchup and more about the LCK’s current advantage over Western leagues: many top Korean contenders now have either international pedigree, superstar names, or a clear MSI storyline.
