Dota 2’s newest hero has leapt into action, as the amphibian musician Largo arrives in Dota 2. The frog-faced fighter flopped into the game along side the long-awaited 7.40 update for the game on Dec. 16.
The latest hero to join the defence of the Ancients is melee musician who uses his music to bolster his allies, amplify damage, and rescue and catch friend and foe alike with his tactile tongue. Here’s what we know and everything else added in 7.40.

Largo was revealed alongside an accompanying lore comic, which unveiled that the shamanic bard was the savior of his amphibian people, and now fights to defend them. Music is the big theme here, although we also pick up on some Polynesian inspirations from his design and story.
To quote his lore:
“The exiled Murkroots of Velu’Mar discovered a living island so ancient it speaks only in song. Raised among the shamanic bards who learned to commune with it, Largo now roams the realms with a troupe of frogling disciples, looking for inspiration for new melodies to bring back home.”
Ability-wise, Largo’s Q is Catchy Lick, a devilish pun that pulls allies and enemies towards him, and applies a basic dispel. The dispel will heal Largo a spell is cast on him while affected.

His W is Frogstomp, a ranged attack that hurls a pair of froglets at the enemy. The froglets sing and initiate a series of stuns.

His E is Croak of Genius which lowers mana costs for spells and items when used on an ally and applies a damage over time (DoT) on any enemies hit with these mana-reduced spells.

Last but not least, Largo’s ultimate, his R, is Amphibian Rhapsody. His normal abilities are disabled, and instead, his Q, W, and E gain new abilities. With it, you’ll need to press your buttons at the right time to enable either AoE damage (Q), speed boost (W), or healing (E). Every strum also grants bonus armor and reduces mana costs, and these effects stack for each successful strum.

Overall, this is a really interesting hero. We think he’s firmly a support, but in Dota, who knows. Maybe some Offlane and Mid potential exists. A lot of this depends on how his damage numbers play out, especially with his ult, at later levels. It also depends on the synergy between his Croak of Genius and ultimate.
Given this has been the longest time period between hero releases for years, and this isn’t the hero that was teased at TI14, it’s actually a pretty pleasant surprise to play Largo. We’ve tested him out, and while we haven’t croaked in any pub games yet, we’re confident this is a hero that’ll leave supports leaping for joy.
Beyond this, there’s a huge 7.40 patch that we’ll dive into deeper in other articles, which includes some major Hero reworks, and a new Winter Collector’s Cache with 16 new sets. That patch will also be affecting the on-going DreamLeague Season 27.
