KT Rolster, the one LCK team going into Worlds with no expectations, is now qualified for Semifinals at the 2025 LoL Worlds without having lost a single game on the way. And I can’t believe I’m writing this.
KT is a name that carries a lot of history, being in the LCK (then OGN) since 2013. They’ve always been a weird team. Always a team that could take down the biggest names, never a team that could be consistent enough to truly go far. They went to Worlds in 2018 and 2021, and lost in quarterfinals both times. However, in 2018, their series against iG was seen as the most high-level series of the tournament.
A few months ago, they became the only team to beat GenG in a Best of 5 since the start of Spring. Only to then lose 3-0 to HLE, and 3-0 to GenG in their rematch. But it’s very representative of who they always are.
KT Rolster had an unconvincing performance against MKOI, then against TSW. But they won both games, still. In their qualification match, they faced a very scary TES, that just crumbled and imploded. KT swept this series 2-0, without having to play well or do anything special. Even then – that makes them the only undefeated team in quarters.
Now, quarters went similarly. They faced CFO, an opponent that turned out to be among the weaker half. Although, that was their recompense for being 3-0 in the Swiss stage. While CFO can put up a fight, it seemed as though they had hit their ceiling, and KT was simply better.
CFO is a valiant team, and they can go out with their heads high. With their 2025 run, they made the LCP and the world proud. They beat T1, they outclassed the West, and they reached quarterfinals for the first time for the region since AHQ and FW in 2015.
But they’re no LCK or top LPL team. And now, KT is in the semifinals, their furthest run ever. Without having faced any of the biggest competition. As the only single team to not drop a single game until the semifinals since Damwon in 2021.
Now, KT faces GenG in the semifinals, the best LoL team in the world. Will they win? Most certainly not. But as KT Peter said in an interview with Jaxon: “If I don’t believe that I can win it all, then who will?” Read the full KT Peter interview.
