Karmine Corp and Team Heretics are slated to face off in the LEC 2025 spring split’s lower bracket quarterfinals, and considering the gap in both teams’ placements in the regular season, KC may have an overwhelming advantage.
The LEC Spring split’s playoffs are in full blast, with spots at MSI and EWC on the line for the two top teams. Karmine Corp surprised many fans when the team made it to the First Stand tournament’s grand final, and its performance in the ongoing LEC’s regular season made it a clear favorite to win in the playoffs. That isn’t the case anymore, as KC lost to KOI and was knocked down to the lower bracket.
With elimination on the line, Karmine Corp and Heretics will battle it out for a chance to progress to the lower bracket semifinals. The winner will have their work cut out for them with KOI and G2 are waiting in the lower bracket final and grand final, respectively. And that’s if they can get past the semifinal.
Team Heretics qualified for the playoffs just by the skin of its teeth, and it’s no surprise why. The team’s players have great potential, but they’re ultimately held back by simple mistakes. Flakked is a consistently good player at ADC who led Heretics to victory multiple times, but the same can’t be said for the other players. Carlsen and Kamiloo have the fundamentals down, but can crumble under pressure and make unnecessary mistakes, including fighting for objectives when they should know they can’t win. Stend has the makings of a reliable support, but he’s seemingly proficient with only a handful of champions, a flaw that is all the more apparent now that the fearless draft system is in place.
By contrast, Karmine Corp’s players have the international experience to complement their obvious individual skills. Caliste is easily the team’s standout player with the most carry potential, followed closely by Canna, who has dominated the top lane multiple times during this split. KC’s jungler Yike efficiently synergizes with the mid laner to increase the side’s overall objective acquisition rate, giving the entire team multiple long-term buffs to help close out games. Karmine Corp has only lost two matches in the current split and has otherwise defeated every other team standing in its way.
Below are the roles and rosters for both teams:
Karmine Corp:
Team Heretics:
Karmine Corp experimented a lot throughout this tournament, but with elimination now on the line, the team will want to go for picks it’s most confident in. These include Gnar, Ambessa, Vi, Taliyah, Miss Fortune, Rumble, Kai’Sa, Alistar, and Braum.
Team Heretics has stuck close to what it knows, and will likely do the same against Karmine Corp by going for champions like Ambessa, Sejuani, Viktor, Azir, Taliyah, Varus, Ezreal, and Rakan.
Karmine Corp was on an impressive winning streak before going into the playoffs, where it surprisingly lost to KOI.
Team Heretics has had a shaky split so far and reached the playoffs only by winning a tiebreaker against Team Vitality.
Karmine Corp and Team Heretics have met on the big stage four times. Both teams have two wins under their belts, ensuring this match will be the series tiebreaker.
Karmine Corp has continued to impress with its recent performance, so it’s no surprise KC is the favorite to win with a betting line of 1.06. Team Heretics has a line of 8.50 that establishes it as a major underdog.
While Karmine Corp is coming off a loss, the team’s recent performance has been consistently impressive. By contrast, Team Heretics has left much to be desired with its play. While TH usually starts strong, many of its players crumble as games progress, resulting in erratic results.
Karmine Corp has very good poking abilities and the knowledge to know when to actually push forward and be aggressive. KC’s biggest advantage is its jungler, as Yike has showcased excellent jungling play while Heretics’ Sheo hasn’t been nearly as impressive. KC’s pure skill, combined with the objective buffs Yike is likely to acquire, may be too much for TH to handle.
