Veteran mid laner Nicolas “Jensen” Jensen has announced that he is now retired from professional League of Legends play.
Jensen is a pro LoL player who has had an interesting and largely successful career playing for various teams throughout the years. The Danish star saw his pro career sidelined early on when he faced bans in League of Legends for toxicity and initiating DDOS attacks against other players.
Jensen returned to professional play after his ban was lifted and went on to have a lengthy career during which he played for Cloud9, Team Liquid, and finally Dignitas. After his run with Dignitas ended, he seemed to step back from pro play entirely, and on August 3 Jensen officially announced that he was retiring from competitive League of Legends.
Jensen stated that pro League of Legends is taking too much time away from the rest of his life, and he finds himself now wanting to spend more time with his family.
Jensen offered a heartfelt announcement in a video posted on his X account. He said he now has more time to do the things he wants in life after professional play had tajen him away from many of the things he wanted to do. Jensen elaborated that he wants to go to Denmark and spend more time with his family there after spending so many years playing pro League in North America.

The star mid laner reminisced about the old days and stated that Cloud9 was his first taste of true high-level esports competition. Jensen replaced C9 veteran Hai Lam, who had retired at the time. Jensen went on to say that while both he and esports were young back then, they’ve since grown together.
Jensen is one of the best NA mid laners to play the game, perhaps second only to Soren “Bjergsen” Bjerg in the region’s histroy. The player stated in his video that he learned his flaws early in his career, and that this may have helped him to better himself. Among Jensen’s greatest accomplishments is his streak of eight consecutive League of Legends World Championship qualifications, which lasted from 2015 to 2022. The streak ended with his failure to qualify to Worlds 2023.
Fans have expressed their sadness at the player retiring, but many agree that he’s had a good run. His rivalry with Bjergsen was one of the biggest highlights of his career and of North American League of Legends. Jensen didn’t get many chances at the top level after his split with FlyQuest in 2024, with FlyQuest going to to great success without him while Jensen struggled to rediscover his previous form. This may have also influenced his decision to retire.
