Fortnite has done something that no other game has ever done in the past: united all systems and paved the way for crossplay to become the new norm.
You might not know it, but Fortnite played an integral role in bringing crossplay to all games. It was the first game to push for a feature that players now expect to see in new titles.
Along the way, Epic released the Gaming Legends series to Fortnite, which included some platform-specific IPs like Master Chief of Halo and Kratos of God of War.

So far, Fortnite has skins from two of the three major consoles: Xbox and Playstation. Nintendo has been absent from the skin party – a fact that hasn’t escaped fans.
Since Fortnite brought skins for both systems, fans have been asking for Nintendo’s Metroid to be represented in Fortnite with a Samus skin.
Nintendo is notoriously stingy with their copyright, but we could have a new teaser that suggests a Samus skin isn’t out of the question.
Epic Games Creative Director, Donald Mustard, loves to tweet teasers and cryptic messages to Fortnite fans. On October 8, he tweeted praise for Metroid with an image of the game on his screen.
Ten minutes into Metroid Dread and it’s already the best thing ever!!! I love these games soooooo much.
Some days I just want to make metroid-esque side scrollers the rest of my life. pic.twitter.com/WE39JJ2AKR

Is this an innocent tweet from a developer who genuinely likes another game? It could be, but it could also be a hint that we’re getting Samus in Fortnite.
Mustard’s adoration of Street Fighter, GI Joe, and other titles have translated to Fortnite skins, so it’s not crazy speculation. For now, the only thing standing in the way would be Nintendo. That’s a giant hurdle – but if anyone can do it, Fortnite can.
