YouTuber Darren “IShowSpeed” Watkins is taking his physical challenges to the next level with plans to compete at the 2028 Olympics.
IShowSpeed has been focusing on his athleticism in recent months. What started as impressing fans by jumping over supercars, IShowSpeed has elevated his physical content by attempting to break the back flip world record and racing athletes, content creators, and celebrities in short distance sprints. While showing a lot of athleticism, it’s never been anything too serious — but IShowSpeed is hoping to change that soon.
During a panel at ComplexCon Las Vegas, IShowSpeed declared that he will be competing at the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. The 19-year-old said he was confident he’d earn a spot and be able to compete in the prestigious sports event, likely taking part in the 50, 100, and 200-meter sprints.
When the interviewer pointed out that there is not a 50-meter sprint at the Olympics, IShowSpeed responded: “You know what I mean… 100 meters, then.”
Fans are torn over whether IShowSpeed truly has what it takes to compete in the Olympic Games. Some fans supported the streamer, claiming that four years was enough time for him to be ready and calling him a “born athlete.” Others felt that he was all talk. IShowSpeed recently lost a race against Olympian Noah Lyles, a $100,000 event put on by Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson, although he still claims he’s the “fastest man alive.”
Only time will tell if IShowSpeed can become the first streamer to be in the Olympics.
IShowSpeed is currently not banned on Twitch.
His previous permanent ban was lifted in October of 2023. The ban lasted two years, initially put in place by Twitch after IShowSpeed threatened a female streamer during a collaboration with Adin Ross. Meant to be a humorous dating show, IShowSpeed concerned viewers when he claimed “nobody could stop me” after asking a woman if she’d have sex with him if they were the last two people on earth.
Despite this upsetting incident, IShowSpeed has since apologized and attempted to focus more on physical content like running and doing dangerous stunts.
