After Gen.G’s latest win over Nongshim RedForce, the League of Legends esports team may have just become the favorite to win LoL Worlds 2024.
Once again, Korea showcases why it’s the home of the best League of Legends players in the world. Although T1 typically dominates the conversation in discussions of the GOAT team, Gen.G has beaten T1 multiple times across the years. The rivalry between Gen.G’s Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon and T1’s Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok has become legendary and inflammatory. Gen.G is on a hot streak of wins in 2024 and is currently undefeated in the LCK. The team dominated T1 in June 2024 in shocking fashion and proved how ahead of every other team Gen.G has become. Although T1’s Faker noted DDoS attacks as a factor in T1’s unpreparedness, he still gave Gen.G props for rightfully winning against them.
The latest game saw Gen.G break even more records, giving it unprecedented momentum for Worlds 2024.
Gen.G will likely enter Worlds 2024 as the favorite after an extremely dominant LCK season.
Gen.G has broken many records in its dominant 2024 performance so far. The team currently boasts 24 series wins and counting, the most of any esports team worldwide. Gen.G now also holds the longest LCK win streak record at 20-0. The team’s win over NS made them the first team to go undefeated in the first round robin. In addition, it also won these LCK wins consecutively, breaking the record for most sequential wins in a single season. These records will be hard for any team to break soon. Unless Gen.G just breaks it again.
The talks around Gen.G now revolve around the team potentially accomplishing the golden road with a win at Worlds. The accolade requires winning all major LoL events recognized by Riot in the same year. T1 has almost won the unofficial accolade multiple times only to fall short with one significant loss. With Gen.G’s impressive performance, the white whale of LoL esports may finally be conquered.
