Filian’s burst of popularity has put her in the spotlight, and a recurring topic in her fan base is their gender, specifically whether Filian is a boy.
Filian has been at the top of the vtuber list ever since her shot to fame back in 2021. As with popular people who haven’t revealed their faces, it’s normal to be interested in the actor behind the vtuber. As such, people have been trying to find out more about the streamer who plays Filian. But information regarding Filian’s personal life is scarce online and she wants to keep it that way. Apparently, Filian is very selective about what information they release as they believe that even the slightest mishap can lead to their doxxing. It even extends to the phone they use, admitting that they don’t use their iPhone’s Face ID.
All this has led to a running joke that Filian is actually a boy, but what do fans know for sure?
While fans joke that Filian is a boy, all signs point to her being a girl.
Filian has referred to themselves as “she” or “her” when talking in the third person. As such, it’s safe to use those pronouns when talking about her. Additional pieces of evidence that point to Filian being a woman are some of her clips where she used her innerwear as a foam to protect her graphics card in her PC when she traveled. There’s also a clip of her taking a gender test and saying “Chat, we can now prove I’m a woman”. Funnily enough, after taking the test, it showed that she’s 75% masculine.
The misconception of Filian being a boy may have come from a collaboration between Neuro-sama and Filian. In the collaboration, Neuro-sama called Filian “Filipino Boy” which completely decimated Filian. Her reaction to it was hilarious, and it stuck with her community as an inside joke.
Outside of this, Filian has never confirmed her gender in any of her accounts. But she also said on stream that it doesn’t matter what her gender is. In her personal view, it’s much better to respect the talent’s privacy. Not all people want their face and their personal information out there, as they feel that this will make them vulnerable and subject to stalking or any other form of invasion of privacy.
