The time has finally come for the IEM Cologne Major 2026 to close out the first season of Counter-Strike action this year. 32 teams will have the opportunity to make their dreams come true in a packed-out LANXESS Arena.
Vitality have a chance to match the legendary Astralis lineup, winning three Major titles back-to-back-to-back and cementing their legacy as the greatest Counter-Strike team in history.
At the same time, NAVI, Spirit, and Falcons will do whatever they can to upset the CS2 odds favorites and beat the others to the trophy. Maybe one of the Stage 1 teams will go on a miraculous run to the playoffs.
Only time will tell. That said, here’s our IEM Cologne Major 2026 betting preview.

The IEM Cologne Major 2026 will be a 32-team event, spanning nearly three weeks from June 2 to 21. Each of the three group stages will feature 16 squads, with half the field advancing to the next stage. The best CS2 teams are already in Stages 2 and 3, while the rest have to battle from the very beginning.
For the first time in CS2 Major history, Stage 3 of the Group Stage will be played entirely in a BO3 format. This change should ensure that everyone who makes it to the playoffs deserves to be there solely on merit, not luck.
While IEM Cologne usually follows ESL’s six-team playoff formula, the Majors follow their own rules. That’s why fans will get to see eight teams play in the LANXESS Arena, from June 18 to 21.
$1,250,000 will be up for grabs over the course of the event, with the Major champions set to take home $500,000. It’s also important to acknowledge that this Major, being an ESL event, is eligible for the Grand Slam, so considerably more money is at stake.

Being the biggest and most important event of the first half of the year, all the top teams and best CS2 players will be in attendance at the IEM Cologne Major. Considering sheer name value, the biggest absentees would probably be FaZe Clan, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and 3DMAX.
It’s no surprise that Vitality are the CS2 betting favorites to take home the Cologne trophy, but recently, a few possible challengers have appeared. One of them is certainly NAVI, who recently defeated Vitality in the IEM Atlanta quarter-finals, before winning the whole event.
Another squad coming in hot is Spirit, who just claimed the PGL Astana 2026 trophy, beating several top teams along the way. We can’t forget that they are the reigning IEM Cologne champions.
The biggest wildcard are Falcons, who have the best head-to-head record against Vitality. Their Hail Mary acquisition of Finn “karrigan” Andersen seems to be working out quite well so far, having already made two Grand Final appearances in the brief time they have had together.
Beyond the elite squads, there is a myriad of interesting teams at each stage of the competition. That’s why everyone is so eagerly awaiting the start of the IEM Cologne Major 2026.
That said, here are all the teams in attendance at the IEM Cologne Major 2026:

The IEM Cologne Major 2026 will kick off on June 2nd with 16 teams taking to the server in Stage 1. Despite the level of Counter-Strike not being as high, the variety in styles and regional representation makes Stage 1 as exciting as the others.
Besides a few locks for Stage 2 qualification, it is very difficult to predict who will make it through to week two of the competition. The three most solid teams that should have no problems advancing are GamerLegion, MIBR, and B8.
Then it’s really anyone’s game. Chinese teams usually do pretty well at Majors, so one of Lynn Vision or TYLOO could go through. At least one of the Americas teams will certainly sneak in, although it’s impossible to say which one of M80, Liquid, and NRG will decide to show up.
The biggest issue with predicting this stage is that we haven’t seen these teams play each other often. Many of these squads qualified for the Major by winning smaller regional events and earning VRS points that way.
In any case, here’s our prediction as to which teams make it through Stage 1 and advance to Stage 2:
