Another tier one Counter-Strike tournament in the US is upon us, with IEM Atlanta 2026 set to kick off shortly. This will be the last opportunity for some teams to get some reps in before the IEM Cologne Major.
There’s a wide variety of teams in attendance, largely due to the event’s location and to PGL Astana 2026 taking place simultaneously on the other side of the globe.
With the stakes being lower than usual, is this the time someone finally beats Vitality to the trophy?

IEM Atlanta 2026 will take place over a week, from May 11 to May 17. The group stage will run from Monday to Thursday, with the playoffs going on over the weekend. 16 teams will take part in the event, with six getting the opportunity to play in front of the Atlanta crowd.
All the games will be played in a best-of-three format, except the Grand Final, which will be a best-of-five. The total prize pool amounts to $1,000,000, with the champions set to take home $295,000.

While not all of the best CS2 teams are attending IEM Atlanta 2026, the reigning Grand Slam champions, Vitality, will be looking to kick-start their third Grand Slam campaign. They would have to win all of the remaining IEM events this year to complete their second Grand Slam in 2026.
Outside of Vitality, there are still plenty of matchups to get excited about, especially those involving teams such as NAVI, FUT, and Astralis. Given Vitality’s admitted lack of practice, could one of them finally make the upset happen?
Additionally, wildcard teams like FaZe Clan and BC.Game could certainly provide some solid entertainment during their runs, which are most likely to end in the Group A lower bracket.

It’s no surprise that Vitality are the absolute stonewall CS2 betting favorite to take home the IEM Atlanta trophy. After all, they are the best team in the world, and the field at this event is weaker than usual.
The biggest challenger for the Bees, according to the CS2 odds, is NAVI. At BLAST Rivals, they were extremely close to handing Vitality their first playoff map defeat since IEM Kraków, but it wasn’t to be.
Besides the top two, FUT and Astralis are the two teams that stand out among the rest. Especially FUT seems to have been powering up throughout this year, and they could become a consistent title challenger in upcoming CS2 events.
Outside of the top four teams, it’s a free-for-all when it comes to playoff qualification. Virtually everyone has a chance to make it to the stage, depending on which versions of each team show up on the most important game days.
