It’s safe to say that the streaming community has been outraged since Samantha “Rivers” Rivera Trevino won Streamer of the Year at the Esports Awards earlier this week, and now Felix “xQc” Lengyel has even argued that he should have won it instead.
The Esports Awards has been a controversial awards show for the past few years, with the streaming community even creating the Streamer Awards hosted by QTCinderella after feeling like the Esports Awards didn’t fully understand or properly represent streaming culture. Despite having their own show, the streaming community still reacted with anger when Rivers beat popular streamers like Kai Cenat, xQc, and Darren “IShowSpeed” Watkins. Fans of the massive streamers felt snubbed by the results, although it was later pointed out that Rivers had 6.5 million Twitch subscribers and a similar amount of followers on X. The reason Kai Cenat fans may not know of her is because she is a Spanish-language content creator. But her fans still came out in droves to help her win Streamer of the Year for two consecutive years, an award reportedly solely decided by popular vote. Even knowing about the criteria, the streaming community has amped up its anger at the situation.
Now, even large streamers like Asmongold and xQc have been pulled into the drama, but the Juicer is surprisingly cool with the results.
During a recent live stream, xQc called out his fans for continuing to bash Rivers for winning Steamer of the Year. He explained that the award isn’t given to whoever the largest creator is. In fact, if that were the criteria, xQc said he would have won four years in a row.
“It’s not a new thing that things are biased and off.People try to use mathematics and analytics to say the bigger streamers should have won. If that’s what we were judging people on, then I would have won four years in a row before last year. Literally. That is not cope. That is mathematics. Not even by a little bit, by a margin of 2.5 to 3. What are you talking about?” said xQc.
xQc went on to say that he has also won past awards based on things other than the size of his fanbase. He said that things are not the way that fans “perceive them to be.”
So does xQc care that the Streamer of the Year awards are not chosen by popularity but instead by some mysterious criteria? No. The Juicer explained to his fans that he would get involved if he actually cared about something, but didn’t really feel worried about the outcome of the award show.
“I don’t really give a f—. I’m at my chair, I’m doing my thing, I really don’t give a f—,” said xQc.
