Mountaintop Studios will hold a 12-day beta test for its upcoming tactical shooter Spectre, and anyone can sign up to participate.

Spectre is a 3v3 tactical FPS that puts a spin on the formula that fuels Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant. The game will feature several characters each with their own distinct class and traits. Mountaintop is an independent game studio with developers from Apex Legends, Battlefield and Counter-Strike as a part of its workforce. Mountaintop raised $30 million in funding from multiple investors this year, including the likes of gaming veterans Michael “shroud” Grzesiek and Timothy “iiTzTimmy” An. All that money has contributed toward a working build of Spectre, and the studio is set to host a beta test to show off its progress.

Mountaintop game director Lee Horn has put out an open call for the next playtest, and anyone can sign up for a chance to play.

How to sign up for the Spectre beta test

To sign up for the Spectre beta test, fans need to visit the official Mountaintop Studios website, link their Steam and Discord accounts, and wait for an invitation.

Upon linking their Steam and Discord account on the site, players will be prompted to sign a nondisclosure agreement. Lastly, fans need to join Mountaintop’s Discord server to claim their Steam key. Players won’t be allowed to share screenshots or videos about the game, and the entirety of the information and details about the playtest must be kept secret until the duration of the NDA. Players under 18 will need a parent or a guardian to sign their NDA for the playtest.

The playtest will runfor six hours every day for a total of 12 days in both Europe and North America. There is no mention of Asia, South America or MENA servers, but Mountaintop explained that they will expand their server reach as they build the game.

For North America, the playtest will commence from 5 pm to 9 pm PT. For Europe, the playtest starts at 7 pm CET and ends at 11 pm CET.

Only content creators with less than 10,000 subscribers or followers will be able to partake in the playtest. Players who have more subscribers on their channel than the specified limit will have to email Mountaintop Studios directly.

Players will need a PC with decent enough specifications to participate in the playtest, and fans with a graphics card lower than the RTX 2080 may need to wait for the next iteration of the playtest. Mountaintop has explained the reason behind this, as many games in the beta phase are poorly optimized. Testers may run into issues on lower-end systems and older video cards.

The minimum PC System requirements are as follows.

  • Operating System: Windows 10 or above
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6GHz 8-Core Processor or Intel Core i7-9700k 3.6GHz 8-Core Processor
  • Memory: 16GB DDR4 RAMVideo Card: 8GB (Nvidia RTX 2080 or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT)
  • Storage: 20GB
  • Internet connectivity: Persistent broadband internet connection

Mountaintop hasn’t specified a release date for the upcoming tactical shooter, but fans should expect the genre-bending FPS to release sometime in 2025.
