Ikea is willing to pay real money for teenagers to work at a virtual store inside Roblox, but not everyone can apply for the prestigious position.
The Ikea Roblox job is completely virtual, and the selected workers will complete their workday entirely inside the game. Who knew there were ways to work inside of a game besides esports? According to Ikea’s official statement, workers can expect to work at the virtual Roblox store just like they would at a physical location. The ten workers, called Co-Workers, will work in different areas of the in-game retailer. They’ll do everything from serving lunch at the delicious Ikea cafe to helping virtual players choose the furniture they want. There’s also a way for workers to move up the virtual store work chain. This comes as part of the new Careers Done Different program from Ikea.
There are a few requirements that prospective clients need to have, but the application process is easy. Considering the pay range of £13.15/€14.80, it’s worth at least applying to.
Only players 18 and older in the UK and the Republic of Ireland can apply for the Ikea Roblox job, which is available on this page.
The questions imply that applicants should have some sort of social media connections, as it asks for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter handles. However, there are a few creative questions that may be a better indicator of who they’ll hire.
Roblox players will need to answer some strange hypothetical questions about what they’d do if they ran out of hot dogs at the virtual Ikea cafe or what piece of furniture they’d be and why to apply. There’s also a rather introspective question asking how the applicant feels about being pixelated. For players who are already accustomed to Roblox, that shouldn’t be an issue. The application specifically points out that current Co-Workers can’t reapply, so there may be multiple hiring waves.
This isn’t the first time that Ikea has made waves on Roblox. Hardocre Roblox fans may know the lore of SPC-3008, a popular horror game set inside of an Ikea store. Those who do may want to leverage that knowledge in their application questions. Creativity seems to be a focal point of the application, so show off that knowledge!
