Fortnite’s new Thin Client is coming to finally make the game size smaller, just a little later than initially expected.
Many fans who have tried installing Fortnite in the past have had issues with the file size. On PC and most consoles, the game can require a minimum of 18 to 26 GB of storage space. However, including updates, Fortnite can run up to as much as 90 GB. The upcoming Thin Client should solve some of the file size issues and let fans pick and choose what content they want.
The Fortnite Thin Client is a long-awaited update to the game that should reduce file size and let more people play what they want.
Fortnite’s Thin Client has minimal download requirements, so players can make a custom smaller file size with the features they want.
The only required download for Fortnite will be the lobby. Through this, players can access a number of major resources including their locker, the item shop, the battle pass, and the play menu.
After that, however, players have the option to download whichever mode they want to use. The most common and quintessential Fortnite mode is Battle Royale, and it will likely receive the most downloads. Other modes include Creative, Rocket Racing, Festival, and Lego Fortnite. All file sizes, from the Lobby to the play mode are reported to become smaller than they are currently with the Thin Client.
Players will still be able to download and play with the regular Fortnite client. The new, thinner client will just help players who either don’t have the room for a massive file size or don’t want to spend hard drive space on Rocket Racing.
According to reputable leakers, Fortnite fans will have to wait until 2025 to download the Thin Client.
Earlier leaks stated that the Thin Client would launch alongside the Fortnite OG Season 2. However, new information from reputable Fortnite leakers suggests that it won’t be fully available until July to September 2025. Features will begin rolling out in November in limited capacity. Until then, players will have no choice but to keep enough room open for Fortnite and its updates.
