Counter-Strike 2 players new to competitive mode are anxious to get some feedback on their play, so here’s how many wins you need to unlock map-based ranks in CS2.
When Valve demoted ranked mode to be the lesser competitive mode in CS2 with Premier, players had assumed it might become easy to progress through the ranks. But it turned out that the CS2 ranked mode was as cutthroat as before, if not more. For each rank, players had to grind for months. In a new update, Valve has made it slightly easier to progress and unlock ranks in CS2.
“We have given map-based skill groups an overhaul. In addition to redistributing players across the Skill Groups, we’ve also made it easier to earn those badges in the first place,” Valve said.
Instead of the previous 10 wins on each map, players only need two wins to see their rank in CS2. This was announced in the June 25 release notes.
When CS2 was released, players had to grind through unlimited games to win 10 matches solely to see a rank. Due to poor rank distribution, the new rank would often be under Gold Nova for most players. That has changed in the new update, and players are now breathing a sigh of relief, overjoyed at the reduced grind and the ease of rank progression.
Now, the rank badge unlocks after two wins in CS2. This means players need a total of 22 wins across all maps to have a rank badge, which is a big relief compared with the previous 110 wins required. That, including the terrible distribution, could be part of why the most common CS2 rank was in the silver range before the June 25 update.
After that, players may find a slight difference in how progress works in CS2. Community members on social media have noticed quick rank-ups across all maps, making it easier for them to earn a rank badge.
