Streamer Darren “IShowSpeed” Watkins Jr failed at beating the backflip world record, but his own count is quite impressive.
Previously known for his controversial behavior on Twitch and Valorant, both of which ultimately ended in suspensions, Speed has been having a lot of fun doing a bit more physical content. For a while, IShowSpeed was getting fans hyped by jumping over supercars and attempting sprinting records. Then, the 19-year-old announced that he was going to attempt a backflip record on stream.
While he didn’t take the crown, he still made a very impressive attempt.
IShowSpeed ultimately made it to 660 backflips in his quest for the world record.
Known for his athleticism and impressive stunts, IShowSpeed declared that he would be attempting the backflip world record on stream. To become the record holder, IShowSpeed had to beat Nico Scheicher, who did 1,008 backflips in 24 hours back in 2019.
IShowSpeed started his attempt on stream Tuesday morning and ultimately gave it a try for 19 hours. But fans noticed that Speed had started out too fast. He had banged out hundreds of backflips in a few hours even though he had 24 hours to pace himself. At one point, IShowSpeed told his fans that he couldn’t even move his legs anymore. He said he “lost his jumping power” as he kept making motions to move but not getting off the ground.
“I can’t move anymore. There’s nothing I can do about that,” IShowSpeed ended up saying.
Due to Guinness World Records not watching the attempts, IShowSpeed’s score of 660 backflips was not added to its site. According to Speed, he will be trying again, most likely in a month or two.
“Don’t get it twisted. I will be attempting this again. I’m not letting this slip out my hands,” IShowSpeed said.
Fans have applauded IShowSpeed for the initial attempt, noting that he didn’t even train for this specific stunt. Many added that it wasn’t a failure and that his fanbase is still proud of the incredible show of athleticism on stream. Even red pill influencer Andrew Tate changed his mind about the streamer after watching the attempt.
“Instead of screaming at babies, IShowSpeed is finally doing something cool. It’s cool because it takes dedication and hard work,” said Tate.
