Just how long is Split Fiction? What new players should know

split fiction

Fans of couch co-op gaming have been loving Split Fiction, the newest game by famed co-op developer Hazelight Studios, but not every couples or family has a lot of free time to complete it between work, school, and everything else that takes up the time in a day. So if you’re wondering how long it takes to beat Split Fiction, we have that context for you, and more besides.

Similar to It Takes Two, Split Fiction see two players work together to complete various challenges through its many levels. In Split Fiction, you play as one of two women – a fantasy writer named Zoe and a science-fiction writer named Mio – and take turns switching between the dynamic and fantastical worlds they’ve created. That means jetpacks, flying cars, dragons, and even farting pigs. Through it all, you learn more about each other, build a deeper bond, and get access to a wide range of powers that will help you traverse each world and solve their puzzles.

How long does it take to beat Split Fiction?

If you are fine skipping the side stories and missing out on some crucial backstory information, it‘s possible to beat Split Fiction as quickly as in around 12 hours.

However, if you want to complete the game in its entirely, take your time to enjoy the game’s story, or even unlock every achievement, that changes how long Split Fiction is. You can expect Split Fiction to take upwards of 16 hours if you’re being thorough.

Can you speedrun Split Fiction?

You can speedrun any game if you have the patience and skills for it, and that includes Split Fiction. The current record for a Split Fiction speedrun is 2 hours, 57 minutes, and 18 seconds, completed by speedrunners FanShu and areskamui, two players from China. All of the fastest speedruns for the game have thus far been completed on the PC platform, even though the game’s also available on modern consoles including the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

Here is the speedrun from the second-place duo, giving you an idea of just how quickly it’s possible to beat Split Fiction:

Of course, in order to achieve such a crazy speedrun, these players had to play with the game’s settings a bit, including turning off damage from the game’s enemies. They also found some wild shortcuts and exploits throughout each world. It’s a pretty interesting watch, but don’t expect the game to go by this quickly unless you’re willing to invest a large amount of time in learning how to speedrun it.
