The Honor of Kings Pro League (KPL) 2025 Grand Finals opening ceremony has received a nomination at the 30th Annual Webby Awards.
The event has been nominated for the ‘Best Use of Immersive in Video & Film: Performance & Craft.’ The KPL 2025 Grand Finals took place at the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing on November 8, 2025.
The Bird’s Nest, also known as the Beijing National Stadium, was constructed ahead of the 2008 Summer Olympics. It played host to the opening and closing ceremonies of the games.
Years later, the venue has been home to many notable tournaments and events. This includes the 2017 League of Legends World Championship’s final between SKT and Samsung Galaxy, which marked its first esports event.
However, it was in 2025 with the KPL Grand Finals that it broke records. Organized by Hero Esports, the event was sold out online within 12 seconds of tickets going live. This led to 62,196 fans in attendance, setting a Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at an esports match.

The KPL 2025 Grand Finals was indeed a spectacle. Hero Esports said in a press release that it featured a 3,663.75 sqm LED floor screen. With such a huge stage, the opening ceremony had 124 dancers performing alongside Chinese vocalist Han Hong.
Among the performances, an AR-rendered golden dragon graced the LED displays. There was a half-time performance as well with award-winning singer Zhou Shen.

The KPL 2025 Grand Finals saw AG Super Play face-off against Wolves. Both teams had different storylines coming into the showdown.
Firstly, AG Super Play was looking to continue its supremacy in Chinese Honor of Kings esports during a year where it had already won almost everything. This included the KPL Summer, the KWC, and the KPL Spring.
On the other end were Wolves Esports. They were chasing their first KPL win since Spring 2024. At that time, they won the grand finals by taking down AG Super Play.
The appearance in the KPL 2025 Grand Finals, though, meant more for Wolves. They had lost their first playoffs game, and made it to the grand final after a stellar lower bracket run.
Ultimately, AG Super Play denied Wolves and came out on top 4–2 to become the champion.
The winners for the Webby Awards will be announced on April 21, 2026, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The KPL 2025 Grand Finals, with its nomination, is also eligible to win the Webby People’s Voice Award. Voting for this is open on the official website.
