Developer Project Kongor has officially revealed the Heroes of Newerth: Reborn $100,000 Global Tournament, marking the competitive return for the iconic MOBA
In a post made on Twitter/X and across social media on Oct. 28, Heroes of Newerth: Reborn devs called on veteran players and aspiring contenders to return to the battlefield for a chance to claim their share of the $100,000 prize pool
For fans of Heroes of Newerth (HoN), the news feels like a long-awaited resurrection. Originally released by S2 Games in 2010, HoN quickly built a devoted following as one of the early titles in the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre. Drawing inspiration from Warcraft III’s legendary Defense of the Ancients mod, HoN was one of the first stand-alone successors, and quickly built a healthy competitive scene.
However, after more than a decade of service, HoN’s official servers were shut down on June 20, 2022. Rather than fade into obscurity, the game found new life through community-led project Project KONGOR, which kept matchmaking, updates, and tournaments alive, at times drawing over 7,000 concurrent players.
In January 2025, Kongor Studios announced Heroes of Newerth: Reborn, a full remake built with modern graphics, updated gameplay systems, and a reimagined user experience. The title is slated to launch exclusively on the Juvio Platform, though the partnership has drawn mixed reactions from fans wary of new digital ecosystems.

Despite those concerns, the promise of a major international tournament has reignited interest in the franchise. HoN, a game where many great Dota 2 players got their start, could attract some fierce competition. In fact, we’d expect some big names from the Dota 2 scene to sign up and play. After all, $100,000 is a decent prize pool.
Registration details and qualifier dates are expected to be announced soon.
