Here’s why Valkyrae is wearing an eyepatch for her Twitch streams

Valkyrae streamer

Streamer Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter debuted a new look with an eyepatch, but why is she wearing one?

Popular Twitch streamer Valkyrae gave fans a surprise by going on-air wearing an eyepatch in her upcoming streams. It’s not for fashion reasons, though.

In response to Valkyrae admitting that she will be wearing an eyepatch on stream, fans compared her to Caitlyn Kiramman in Arcane, who has an eyepatch in Season 2. Others commented that she is starting her One Piece arc and now fans are asking for the cosplay to happen. Some fans even joked that Valkyrae shouldn’t have revealed why she is wearing an eyepatch to keep viewers guessing.

But why is she actually wearing the eyepatch? She gave fans an explanation.

Why is Valkyrae wearing an eyepatch?

Valkyrae stated she’s wearing an eyepatch due to a stye in her eye. Prior to this, she told fans that she had accidentally pulled out multiple eyelashes, which resulted in her eye becoming swollen.

A stye is a hard and often painful bump that forms on the eyelid. A stye can be formed from many common things like sharing makeup or even rubbing an eye with an unwashed hand. Valkyrae will be wearing it in an attempt to treat the health condition.

It’s probably for the best that Valkyrae explained the reason behind the eyepatch, however. Lately, Valkyrae has been complaining about clip-farming accounts taking out-of-context clips of her streams and attaching “insane” titles. While it was largely a criticism of accounts that have taken her descriptions of nonconsensual sexual experiences and called her a “whore,” she has reached a point where bad actors will latch onto anything and stir it into a criticism of her. Valkyrae added that she has now contacted a lawyer over the issue.

Meanwhile, it’s unclear how long Valkyrae will need to wear an eyepatch for but fans are looking forward to her new style on stream. Hopefully Valkyrae will open up more about her eyepatch and what doctors have recommended.

For now, fans are giving Valkyrae advice on how to deal with the stye, with most recommending a warm cloth being pushed against her closed eye. It’s especially important that she recover since The Streamer Awards are just around the corner and she is sure to make an appearance.
