Vshojo vtuber Ironmouse announced on X that YouTube terminated her main channel, effectively banning her from the giant platform, and the streamer is taking action to try and get the channel reinstated.
Ironmouse is a founding member of the vtuber agency VShojo, creating content since as early as 2017. The streamer is one of the most popular English vtubers on Twitch but has been facing some problems on other streaming platforms. Ironmouse live-streamed the news that copyright strikes are targeting her VODs YouTube channel in order to get her real-life identity revealed and her VODs channel was eventually deleted.
Now, Ironmouse has announced on September 20, 2024, that YouTube has terminated her main channel and fans want to know why. The question of whether her channel will return is also in the air.
Ironmouse did not state why YouTube deleted her main channel, as the vtuber only shared the news of the channel’s termination and no details.
Ironmouse tweeted on X announcing that after her VODs channel, YouTube terminated her main channel. However, the vtuber didn’t share any details on why her main channel was deleted. This is surprising as YouTube clearly mentions the reason for the termination of the channel in the email it send creators.
However, when subscribers tried to open Ironmouse’s channel they were given their reason for the channel’s deletion. The subscribers were notified that Ironmouse’s channel was terminated due to being linked with an account that received multiple third-party copyright strikes.
YouTube’s guidelines state that users are prohibited from “circumventing their termination.” The termination of Ironmouse’s VODs channel may have subsequently led to the termination of her main channel. The video platform may believe Ironmouse is avoiding a ban by using a new account, although nothing’s confirmed.
Ironmouse is not permanently banned from YouTube, but she will have to appeal or use legal action to bring her channel back.
To get her main channel reinstated Ironmouse needs to first get the copyright claims of her VODs channel sorted. However, the vtuber is facing issues with that. YouTube’s appeal process for channel terminations requires revealing the owner’s registered address and personal information to the claimant.
Ironmouse wants to retain her anonymity. That’s why she was unable to appeal her VODs channel’s termination according to YouTube’s appeal process. If legal recourse by the vtuber is accepted by YouTube then it is possible the copyright strikes can removed. However, it is unclear whether YouTube will allow someone else to act on the vtuber’s behalf.
Regardless of the outcome, this is a huge question on YouTube’s validation of copyright claims. That and whether the platform’s appeals process really protects creators. If Ironmouse’s channels are lost then it will be a huge loss for fans and the creator. Her channels have countless hours of content and a huge fan base.
