Twitch streamer Asmongold is no stranger to the spotlight, but this time, things seem to have taken quite a serious turn as the streamer revealed he was contacted by the FBI.
It’s not uncommon for Twitch streamers to have banter which may sometimes border on controversial. However, police involvement is quite rare, let alone the FBI. On November 8, Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt revealed that the FBI had reached out to him to inquire about a supposed bounty placed on his head and if he wanted to press charges.
The streamer said no, and he had a good reason for it.
FBI contacted Asmongold regarding a bounty worth $30,000 that was actually intended for former gaming executive Mark “Grummz” Kern.
In April, political streamer Jean “Denims” reacted to a post by Toneman quoting Grummz’s X post, proposing a $20,000 bounty to make him disappear. During a complex series of reactions, Denims watched a video of Asmongold reacting to the quote and joked about “upping the number” to $30,000 to make Grummz disappear. However, fans, and Asmongold himself, mistakenly assumed she was referring to him.
Asmongold initially reacted to the clip, saying he might contact the police due to the threatening nature of Denims’ stream. However, he later learned she wasn’t referring to him. When viewers brought up the subject on Twitch, the streamer hesitantly revealed that the FBI contacted him, but he declined to press charges.
“She wasn’t talking about me, so that’s why I didn’t push it, even though it maybe could have been interpreted that way,” Asmongold said. “I rewatched the clip, and she clearly was not talking about me so I thought it was a waste of time.”
The confusion was due to Denims reacting to the original post during Asmongold’s reaction stream, which led fans to believe she might be talking about him.
While this chapter is closed, Grummz is not over Denims’ remarks and has said that he’d not show leniency if the FBI contacted him regarding the matter. He also revealed that Denims has yet to apologize to him.
Denims was banned on Twitch on November 10, unrelated to this controversy. The exact reason for her current ban is unknown.
