It's coming.

Here are the real facts about GTA 6’s trailer and release date

Fans continue to wonder about when the GTA 6 trailer might finally be revealed and the game’s release date. An alleged leaked internal email has stirred up both discussion and confusion about the real facts of the situation.

With Grand Theft Auto 5 standing as one of the highest-selling games of all time, it’s only natural that fans are anxiously awaiting the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series. There has been speculation that the first GTA 6 trailer will debut at The Game Awards as well as discussion about the possibility of it being dropped in an event run by Rockstar Games itself. This all comes after one of the biggest leaks in video game history putting an early build of GTA 6 onto the internet.

An alleged leak showing the subject line of an internal email sent out by Rockstar was leaked on Twitter by @nima021. The legitimacy of the leak has been hotly debated but in reality, fans already have a pretty good idea about what Rockstar has in mind. Here are the real facts surrounding the GTA 6 trailer and when it might be released.

When will the trailer for GTA 6 be released?

Rockstar Games confirmed that the first trailer for the next game in the GTA series will be revealed in December 2023.

On the 25th anniversary of Rockstar Games, the company made a post thanking its fans for its success over the years. At the end of the post, the company announced that the trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto would be released in early December. Fans are speculating that the first GTA 6 trailer might drop during The Game Awards, since that event has a history of revealing new games and DLCs. There is no confirmation of this, and the buzz surrounding GTA 6 could warrant the revealing being an event unto itself.

The supposed leak of an internal email doesn’t contain any information that expands upon or contradicts anything that has been officially put out. It has the subject “Unveiling the Next Chapter,” and the first several words discuss revealing the game.

Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed that it will be revealing Grand Theft Auto 6. Recent reports and leaks point towards this being the case, but spin-off games like GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas aren’t technically part of the mainline series despite being comparable in scope to GTA 3. Regardless, given the teases from Rockstar and the information that’s available, all signs point to the next game being GTA 6.

When will GTA 6 be released?

GTA 6 will likely be released between Q2 2024 and Q1 2025. That release window stems from Rockstar Games projecting $8 billion in net bookings in its next fiscal year with no explanation as to why it was expecting record income. This led to speculation about GTA 6 being revealed, even before Rockstar confirmed a new game and trailer were coming.

Alongside this was a revelation by Microsoft. While the company was pushing its acquisition of Activision Blizzard through the courts, it was stated that the expectation was for GTA 6 to be released in 2024.

That said, neither Rockstar Games nor parent company Take-Two Interactive have confirmed GTA 6’s release date. It’s possible that it could be released after this window. Because Rockstar has been silent regarding the game’s development, it’s possible that there was a delay that nobody is aware of outside the company. The company has largely indicated that development has gone smoothly in public statements.

Rockstar Games tends to announce games around two years before their actual release date. Grand Theft Auto 5 was announced in 2011 but the game wasn’t actually released until 2013. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 was announced in 2016 but was released two years later in 2018. Given the projections for its next fiscal year, it’s unlikely that
