GTA 6 hacker reportedly revealed

Rockstar Games, the developer of the iconic Grand Theft Auto series has confirmed that a leak gave public access to a chunk of the GTA VI’s source code. The GTA 6 hacker is, reportedly, a 16-year-old with a history of major breeches.

The company released an official statement citing a “network intrusion” by an unauthorized third party that leaked over 90 pieces of footage of the unreleased game.

No delay to game release

It has been referred to as one of the “biggest leaks in video game history”, and a “nightmare” for Rockstar. While being “disappointed” that the data was exposed this way, which hints that it might be actual gameplay footage under development, Rockstar assures that there will be no delay in the game’s release, and work would remain on schedule.

It remains to be seen whether it will be possible, considering this leak opens up avenues for piracy and cheating – highlighting major security issues that must be resolved. The footage was uploaded on the GTAForums site by a user called teapotuberhacker, and Rockstar’s legal team was quick to take down all the videos, images, and code.

pompompurin, admin of the hacking forum Breached claims that the GTA 6 hacker is a 16-year-old who goes by the alias White, and was a leader of the cyber-crime team Lapsus$ before they were turned in by their associates. White allegedly sent proof in a Telegram chat that they were behind the GTA 6 leaks.

According to reports, Lapsus$ was behind other massive data breaches committed against major corporations like Samsung, Nvidia, Microsoft, and Uber. The hacker has reportedly also stolen source code from GTA 5 and is demanding a payout from Rockstar from “not less than under 5 figures.”

The recent leak corroborates earlier rumors that the game will feature a Bonnie-and-Clyde style protagonist pairing, and will feature the first female playable character in the game’s history. The footage shows the pair of  Lucia and Jason holding up a diner, and hints at a return to GTA Vice City.

The fictionalized version of Miami was also the setting of the popular fourth installment of the series. The leak also revealed the gameplay, game engine, and mechanics along with some animation tests, level layouts, and gameplay demonstrations.

While GTA VI is still a long way away, Rockstar confirmed in their recent statement that we can expect updates on the game’s development soon.
