Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander, legendary Counter-Strike in-game leader, is retiring as a player to focus on becoming a coach, he announced on November 24th.
The 30-year-old was one of the brains behind Astralis’ dominance from 2018 to 2019, and helped the organization win four CS:GO Majors in the past decade, on top of other 20 notable trophies.
After leaving Astralis in 2023, gla1ve played for ENCE in 2024 and 2025, but was unable to help the Finnish organization return to tier-one. Gla1ve had been inactive since July, when ENCE moved him to the bench, upon retiring as a player.
In an interview with HLTV.org, gla1ve said that he believes he’s the “first tier-one IGL to transition into coaching in CS2,” and explained why he’s hanging up his mouse.
I am still here to lead a team to victory. That part hasn’t changed. Not by an inch. This decision comes from a place of clarity and ambition. After years on the server, I realized that I had given everything I had as a player and lifted almost every trophy I had ever dreamt of lifting. I realized that my impact can be greater off the server than on it. I’m retiring as a player now — not because I’m stepping away from the game that I love more than anything else — but because I’m stepping further into the game and because I truly believe I have something extraordinary to offer in this role.
This transition is a proactive choice. It’s not about ending something; it’s about beginning the next chapter with purpose. I know who I am as a competitor, and that competitive drive will now fuel my coaching.
When asked what types of teams he wants to join, gla1ve told HLTV.org that he intends to be a head coach from the very beginning.
At least for now, he is prioritizing international teams, though he would consider coaching Astralis, too.
“Astralis will always be in my heart, and if I felt like I could take them back to winning, then you should never say never,” gla1ve said.

Given that gla1ve is arguably a top-three Counter-Strike IGL of all time, he should be getting some coaching offers soon. A lot of teams, for example, will make changes once the StarLadder Budapest Major concludes and the off-season starts.
Some international teams are struggling ahead of the Major, including FaZe Clan and HEROIC. As for Danish teams, Astralis is the only one that could match gla1ve’s ambitions at the moment, and they haven’t been playing well either.
Though it’s a bit unlikely to see former players landing on tier-one teams for their first coaching experience, we’ve seen it happen recently. G2 hired Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas in 2023 despite his lack of credentials as a coach, betting that he’d be capable based on his wealth of experience as a player across CS: 1.6 and CS:GO.
