Get started: How to download League of Legends

Are you considering playing League of Legends? Don’t worry, it’s never too late to download the game client.

Downloading the game involves a download of the Riot Games client, where all Riot Games logins are based (including VALORANT). As a free-to-play game, you only need to get the downloads started and then boot up your first game. 

To start on the right footing, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to download the game to your computer:

Download League of Legends to your computer

Starting off, you want to head over to the official League of Legends website, where the download process begins. When you enter the front page, you will see a “play for free” button in the middle of the screen, or a “play now” button at the top right. Click on one of those first. 

On the landing page, you will be asked to enter your email to get started. This is the email that you will sign up with if you don’t already have an account. If you don’t, you can follow the instructions. Be sure to ask your friends which server they are playing in before doing so!

If you already have an account, you can click the “Click to Download” button. Do also note that you need to select your region in the top right in this case as well.

From the next page, you will can click “Download for Windows” button, and you’re set. If you are playing on a Mac, you will click the “Download Mac Installer” line below the button. 

After installing the game client, you can start it from your Desktop (or Applications folder). Once started, the game will download updates before it’s ready to go, at which point you can enter your login info.

When you sign in, you can choose to stay signed in to make it easier to boot the client every time you want to game. Then, the client will take you to the next screen, from which you can press “Play.” 

While you wait for more patch updates, you can browse the shop, your profile, friends list, and much more. You will know that all updates are done when the “Play” button becomes available on the LoL client.

With those simple steps, you are now ready to hit Summoner’s Rift and play League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics on PC/Mac.
