A recent survey by Epic Games shows that Fortnite samurai skins might be on the horizon in an upcoming Fortnite battle pass.
Though perhaps best known for its collaborations with popular IPs like Marvel and Fallout, Fortnite often draws from mythologies and real-world history as inspiration for skins and items. Most players don’t play only for the skins, but a rotating aesthetic helps draw in new and old fans alike. Anime skins are some of the popular picks in the game, so other parts of Japanese culture seem like a natural fit. Epic Games has realized this, and it seems the landing of the rising sun is just beyond the horizon.
Eager players can dust off their sabers to prepare for the release of Fortnite samurai skins.
Concept art shows that players can expect to see more samurai skins in Fortnite soon.
Every few months, Epic reaches out to select content creators and players to share concept art of upcoming Fortnite skins. April’s survey revealed 35 new outfits, most of which seemed to be based on original material.
The biggest takeaway? Fortnite seems to be heavily leaning into the feudal Japanese aesthetic, making up over two-thirds of the skin pics. Given the prominence of samurai and oni-like imagery of some of the skins, the next season could be focused on Japanese mythology like how Chapter 5 Season 2 focused on the Greek pantheon.
An additional theme from the survey is human-animal hybrid skins, such as a monk-like macaque and a tough-looking tanuki. The sheer quantity of Japan-themed skins strongly hints toward a themed battle pass in the future.
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 ends in August, and it’s currently unknown if the next season will be set in Japan with samurai skins.
According to the in-game battle pass menu, Season 3 expires on August 16. 2024. There’s a certain amount of speculation that next season’s theme will be Marvel-related, though Epic Games has yet to confirm anything.
The Fortnite samurai skins could also possibly never arrive. Concept art is not the same as confirmed content, unfortunately. But regardless of the samurai skin release date, players will likely enjoy whatever Epic Games has planned next.
