What do you need to know going into this match?

The last time we saw Gen G face off against Paper Rex was all the way back in the VALORANT x Esports World Cup (EWC) tournament in 2025.

In this match, Gen G defeated Paper Rex 2-0. In the first week of VCT Pacific Stage 1, Gen G lost their first match to Global Esports. Paper Rex, on the other hand, got their revenge on Nongshim RedForce in a rematch from VALORANT Masters Santiago, defeating them 2-1.

It would not be an understatement to say that Gen G is nowhere close to the roster that won VALORANT Masters Shanghai back in 2024. They have lost a lot of players with the new signings not being able to make the ideal impact on the team.

It must be noted that even the addition of Foxy9 hasn’t worked in favor of the team. Currently, the team is in freefall, one that no one could have imagined going into the VCT 2026 season.

Going into this match, according to betting websites, Paper Rex are the dominant favorites to win the series. The odds are so far apart that it does feel like Gen G have been clearly written off following their loss to Global Esports.

While Paper Rex is known for their high-octane playstyle, Gen G are remembered for their slow, methodical playstyle.

Sadly, this playstyle hasn’t helped the team to achieve any form of success in the last 10 months. Gen G failed to qualify for both VALORANT Champions 2025 and VALORANT Masters Santiago 2026.

In the VCT 2026 season, the team has only won one match out of the five that they played.

It does feel like Split will be banned by Gen G from the get-go, as they have performed the worst on this map while Paper Rex are undefeated on it.
