KT Rolster is one of two teams standing between Gen.G and an undefeated LCK spring split. Considering that both teams have already qualified for Road to MSI, this match has the potential for unexpected variance even as Gen.G comes in as the clear favorite.
Gen.G has comfortably established an argument to be called the strongest League of Legends team in the world, as well as locally in Korea, by going undefeated through the ongoing spring split to date.
With the final week of round two in full blast, KT Rolster is one of two teams that can potentially stop Gen.G from completing an undefeated split. While KT has had its moment of skill, the big question is if the team can pull off an upset here.
Gen.G’s current LCK run has been close to flawless. The team comfortably outplayed and defeated every competitor in the tournament and has only lost four games in total. The biggest reason for Gen.G’s success may be the jungle and mid synergy Canyon and Chovy share, allowing the two players to shine in every match played. Ruler, Duro, and Kiin have also played well while sticking to the team’s strategy, which has been more than successful.
Another standout feat is that Gen.G seems to be improving as the competition rolls on. The team tweaked its strategy after failing to qualify for First Stand, which may have worked considering Gen.G hasn’t lost a match since the LCK Cup. While Kiin’s performance occasionally seems lackluster, that’s usually only when compared to his efficient teammates.
Then there’s KT Rolster. The team had an extremely shaky start and struggled to get its bearings early. KT initially only won against teams in the bottom four while getting outplayed by most other sides. That changed when KT defeated Hanwha Life Esports in week seven, prompting the team to go on an impressive winning streak.
PerfecT and substitute top player Casting sometimes falter against strong laners. This prompts their teammates to cover for them by increasing their roaming. Bdd and deokdam, in particular, have showcased high carry potential in their respective mid and ADC roles, even if they’re ultimately a little too inconsistent to safely rely on.
Below are the rosters and roles of both teams:
Gen.G:
KT Rolster:
While Gen.G’s most popular picks include champions like Gwen, Rumble, Xin Zhao, Skarner, Naafiri, Ahri, Miss Fortune, Rakan, and Nautilus, the team may opt for unconventional or uncommon picks. This is primarily thanks to Gen.G’s habit of experimenting against teams it’s confident against. On the other hand, there’s also the chance that Gen.G may take KT very seriously to ensure the undefeated streak continues.
KT Rolster was switching around its picks to see what stuck when the team was on its losing streak. Now that it’s winning more, it’s safe to assume the team will want to go for the champions it’s seen success with, including Nidalee, Corki, Ashe, Braum, Annie, Kalista, and Neeko.
Gen.G won against every team it faced in the current split and his a total of 16 wins already under its belt as the squad continues to impress.
KT Rolster’s start to the ongoing LCK split may have been shaky, but the team seems to have found a winning combination since, as suggested by its recent winning streak.
Gen.G and KT Rolster have met on the big stage 23 times. While KT Rolster has seen victory seven times, Gen.G has a significant advantage with 16 wins over KT.
It’s no surprise that Gen.G is the overwhelming favorite to win against KT with a betting line of 1.08. By contrast, KT Rolster has a high line of 7.50.
While KT Rolster won against Hanwha Life Esports in an impressive upset, HLE’s poor drafting and decision-making played a huge role in that. Gen.G’s continued success is largely thanks to the team’s smart drafting abilities, along with the team’s players playing and sticking to their specific roles. KT can usually make up for its top laner’s faults, but that’ll be difficult against a skilled player like Zeus who’ll want to capitalize on any given opportunity.
Canyon is an excellent jungler with high objective acquisition rates and more successful ganks than failed ones, which can’t be said for the inconsistent Cuzz on the KT side. While deokdam showcased his carrying potential against HLE, Gen.G’s Ruler tends to play more passively, suggesting KT’s ADC may not get the chance to snowball in the same way. That might be KT’s only win condition, and without it, Gen.G looks well-positioned to continue its dominant winning streak.
